Good day,

I want to know if anyone knows of a Dirt Jump competition happening this year or if there is even any happening in RZA?

Where and how do you enter?

On what platforms does it get posted?

I am asking for spectators and as a competitor?

Do they have comps at Hellsend or other spots in the WC?

Kind regards,

Steve A

Potato trails is no more (the family sold the house and land).

I'm not aware of any regular comps at the moment. Now and again there is a jam of some sort and there are usually prizes but it's pretty chilled. I'm thinking of dawn of the dirt (garden route trail park) and the halloween jam (gumtrails). Red bull and Monster used to have jams once a year or so but not much since covid. Follow the usuals on instagram (start with trailscrew and the algorithm should connect you with others) and you should be informed about whats going on.

Most of the more formal events are invite only so networking and social media presence goes a long way!

I live close to Gummies, session gummies a lot. I have only seen YouTube vids of gummies jam. We had a few guys that were maintaining gummies but it's only me and a mate of mine that still digs.

The big reason for asking is to try and find mates to ride with. Unfortunately jumpers are a dyeing breed in RZA and finding mates that still jumps is hard. The younger generation that jumps is getting verry scares as well.

So if a jam pops up I try to be there, but most of the time it's very hard to befriend the riders at the jams if your not riding.

To be honest, it seems more and more young guys (and girls) are starting to get into jumping, and mtb in general. Many of my friends are super keen on dirt jumping, and do it more often than riding the big bike these days.

I need to work on my jump confidence, but it is one of those skills that literally translates across to every other discipline of riding, and increases bike control by a helluva lot.

If anyone is keen, (this is not a promotion of any sorts) a mate of mine does the airbag sessions at Hoogekraal on Fridays.

I would like to learn to dirt jump. Availability is a bit of a problem and finding someone to show me how. Also, I am an old man.

I am most days of the week and weekend at Gumtrails in Durbanville. Trying to spot the guys that leave tire marks on the jumps (to befriend them), but I constantly miss them.
But as I am not the best jumper in the world I have taught a few of my mates to jump in the past.
