Which is what I was trying to say .... R100/month for the R50k cover, for full time full comprehensive cover, at Santam.

But hey, our situations differ, and thus there is a market for different types of insurance.

Nope, the lines are still crossed 😄

The R750/month I was referring is for R243k's cover. One bike is R98k, the other is R145k.

But if they're not crossed, yes, I could probably move the R42k bike to Santam comprehensive.

Yeah, that is my challenge, when the bikes are north of a 100k regular insurance seems to get quite heavy, like more expensive than my cars heavy somehow. Also, like you I can go for extended periods of time when one or the other bike is not used. Sounds like our wires are aligned 🤓.

I find it part of my preflight checks to ensure that the bike is activate on the app before riding, so not had an issue yet. Although my wife was alarmed to come up stairs to find the front door wide open once after I left for a ride super early, so my forgetfulness seems to prioritise…

Is anyone familiar with insurance on an Ebike?

Is there any plan that will cover the repairs if say the motor has to pack up?

I will ask my broker, but my understanding is that the following is covered:

. Theft

. Accident damage

Wear and tear is not covered.

That is correct - wear and tear is not accidental/unforeseen so is not insured.

I think this about sums up the entire discussion - the point is, everyone has different circumstances and different approaches to how they perceive and manage their own personal risk. So there is no right or wrong answer to the OP's question.

It also takes knowing oneself and being honest about our own quirks habits and forgetfulness. Personally I would hate having to switch cover on and off as I'd worry that Murphy says the one time I forget to switch it on is when the crash/theft/bad thing will happen.

I have found a few good insurers who include all my home contents as all risks cover. This means I have cover including for my bicycles no matter where they are. This also extends to my camping equipment/laptops and all typically portable items that leave the home on a regular basis. I pay R727 per month for around a R1,000,000 of home contents value.

I'd be happy to help fellow hubbers with their cover - just dm me,

Your cover will fall under “moto” bike, not a bicycle. 😂😂😂

Eish I had to take that shot boss, the goals were wide open! 🤭
