Hi Everyone

I'm in need of some help please.

Any bike fitters whith experience dealing with leg length discrepancy? fitting a shim to a cleat?

I've got a structural 1.5cm difference and struggle with lower back issues while cycling. especially on the road bike. I've a had 2 Retul fitments and its not helped at all.

I live in Hermanus, would love to see someone not too far away

THANKS!!

do you know if the length discrepancy is in the femur or fibia, hip cradle?

If not it would be useful for your fitter to know this I guess as it will inform different pathway to compensate for the discrepancy.

hence SSISA

Thank you @Johanny82, I'll email her and find out if she could help.

@DieselIndust - I did not go for Xrays as its a bit expensive so not 100% sure. But have done a few tests with a physio and i keep having the same result. Left leg longer than right...

Sounds like you going round in circles.

My right leg is slightly longer than my left due to a crash a while back. I have no issues. Hope you sort it.

If you didn't confirm via x-ray, it could be some other bio-mechanical issue. I've not had this specific problem but had constant knee/ITB issues post knee surgery (which was required due to a very bad bike fit by a reputed organisation) and eventually got to a solution through trial and error based on significant research. My solution was to use the highest commercially available arch support (G8 performance insoles), a 3mm heel wedge and 2 cleat wedges for R shoe, and slightly less support for L shoe.

I would suggest googling Steve Hoggs bike fitment - he has done extensive work with Leg Length Discrepancies, whether real or imagined, and has made his findings available to the public (might require a small subscription fee but is worth every cent).

Good luck.

then I'd suggest making an appointment at the SSISA and get a thorough assessment of what you are dealing with. X-rays not necessarily required. An orthopaedic surgeon can also guide you
