  1. I haven't been down there in a month or three, but when I last rode it it was still quite ridable although some parts have become somewhat eroded and "ridden out" as there is not much maintenance being done. No concern about overgrowth, probably as most of the route is used by walkers and runners too.
  2. Got this on one of my Whatsapp groups last night: 10 April 2024 at approximately 18:40 two cyclists’ cycle on the Helshoogte road between Niel Ellis and The Ridge, direction The Ridge. The front cyclist spotted 2 c/m that looks very suspicious. The one suspect then took out a firearm and cocked it. The cyclist immediately turned around and warned the other cyclist to also turn around and they then sped off in the direction of Niel Ellis. The suspects then also disappeared into the veld next to the road. Description of the suspects: 2 x c/m one armed with a firearm. The one suspect was wearing a red and black beanie with a red and black long-sleeved top. The other suspect was wearing a red and black beanie mostly red. Please be vigilant in the area.
  3. Yesterday she took me to the top of Chappies for the obligatory picture. Another hard day in Cape Town 😆
  4. @Jacques Joubert WC ek is seker jy kan hom help met die details oor die Adderley rides
  5. You don't say where along the Atlantic seaboard, so assuming the Table View/Melkbos area, why not make contact with the Outriders club? https://www.outriderscyclingclub.co.za/
  6. Yesterday morning it took me to a beautiful sunrise
  7. To my knowledge, legally no not allowed as you are not allowed to cross property boundaries with electrical supply cables. No electrician will be allowed to sign off on such an installation as the supply for one house will be coming from another house which one might not have access to should the power need to be switched off. As Lazy suggested, gooi-ing a lead over the wall might be easier.
  8. In 2020 just before lockdown I did a sub-3 from 1H, I see there were 30 guys in 1H under 3hrs. The weather on the day plays a big role, the 2020 one was a good day. 2019 the wind was horrible and very few sub 3's were achieved
  9. Haha, 40-50 years ago when our place was built there was no need for considerations for solar installations...
  10. Jip, the house is built NW to SW to have a nice view of our mountain, with the result that there is only a little bit of roof space facing north-ish. So we had to put the one string on the one section of roof facing slightly NW, and the second string facing more east as it was the only space available.
  11. Absolutely. I am in Parow close to Tygerberg High School and I know our place is not ideally located with Tygerberg koppie blocking early morning sun (in winter the panels only really start producing around 11am) and I also don't have enough roof space facing the right way, so not all my panels are ideally placed. I know more is possible with my setup, but I have to live with what is possible. Last year approx 45% of my total usage was self generated and the power does not go off during load shedding, so the boss and the kids are happy and not complaining that the internet and the PC went off any more 😆
  12. Bad weather days 🥴 last year in June and July my monthly production from solar went from 450-550kWh in Jan/Feb to 270kWh mostly due to winter time where the sun rises later and the sun angle to the panels are not ideal. I only got about 60-70% of peak capability in the middle of the day, some days the batteries never got any extra charge as the solar production never exceeded the demand. Some days the batteries got full for about an hour only, other days only up to 70% somewhere during the day. For interest sake, this is my system's production from last year - red line is total consumption, blue indicates how much was generated by the solar panels.
  13. So, according to the current CoCT tariff schedules the following would apply: You need to install a 2 way meter (costs vary depending on who you speak to, the CoCT schedules have a rate of R12 850 but through a private supplier and installer it might be cheaper) and then you have to pay a monthly "AMI access fee" of R96.20. Refer to https://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/Financial documents/Ann6_2022-23_EnergyGenerationandDistribution-Miscellaneous.pdf (item 8.12) Then, when the City starts paying residential users, they will pay you back 90.83c + 28.75c (incentive fee) per unit you feed back. Refer to https://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/Financial documents/Electricity Consumptive Tariffs.pdf (on page 1). Just remember that the incentive fee is indicated only till June 2025. In short, you need to feed back +- 100units per month just to cover the AMI fee, before you then start "paying off" your meter fee. For most residential installations this will most likely not be possible, especially during Cape Town winter time as you will only feed back extra power that your house does not use and after your batteries are fully charged.
  14. No, they're suspended with full pay....
  15. You can also contact Corne at Forest Energy. They did mine and are very professional and well priced. https://forestenergy.co.za/
  16. On Saturday morning around 6am two friends of mine was attacked coming from Tiekiedraai towards Burgundy on the way to Plattekloof circle. As they got to Richwood two guys with tire irons approached them from the front, one friend fell turning around and they hit him on the helmet wanting his phone. Luckily a car with 6 petrol attendants stopped and chased them away and my friends were not harmed and nothing was stolen. Be careful around that whole area if not riding in a big group.
  17. Not sure if you get boost in a road hub - OP noted that he got a "road rim" with the trainer. It might be a through-axle and the hole in the hub is "too wide" where the QR goes through. Perhaps the OP can share some pictures of what he has.
  18. Friday's club mail said "P.S B-Spot is open so go forth and enjoy!"

  20. Maybe have a look at this thread too: https://forum.bikehub.co.za/topic/189457-bikepacking-bike-touring/?tab=comments#comment-3818473
  21. A buddy of mine was mugged and his bike stolen yesterday morning just before 6am on the way to our meetup point. It happened on Giel Basson Dr on the new extension piece behind Burgundy Estate. Perp was walking in the road and pushed him off his bike when he came past. He fought back, but the guy pulled a knife so he let it go. Suspect the bike was in that Du Noon cesspool 10mins later. Be careful and alert out there and give guys walking in the road a wide berth if possible.
  22. Some of the people from our club has also had repairs done at Top Stitch at Glengarry, maybe pop in there and see what they can do for you
  23. It seems that CNTRL + Click on a topic from the main page does not open a new tab, it opens in the same tab. From a discussion page it opens a new tab. Working from Windows 10 and Chrome
