Friend of mine bought himself and his SO new MTB's. The chainrings on the bike is 30T and he wants to fit 34T chainrings. Further to this he asked me if I can source the chainrings for him.

Browsing online looking for chainrings there is the mention of offset, saw a few chainrings that does not mention offset.

Question what will the issue be if I replace his 0mm offset ring with a 3mm offset ring? At this stage he is just doing some causal riding on the road and occasional gravel roads.

Going bigger and at an offset might cause clearance issues with the chainstay. Hard to say without all the details like current clearance and crankset etc

Plus, you might need to get new chains as well

What frame? Will need model year as well.
What cranks?

Offset is important for chainline and can affect clearance. Get the right thing. CSixx will have the thing you need.

0mm offset? Are these Cannondale Scalpels using Hollowgram cranks?

Spoke to him last night and he indicated that he will forward me the information. He bought Giant but not sure which models but it is not dual suspension bikes.

Interesting so must be 55mm chain-line.

A 55mm chain-line cannot accommodate a 3mm offset chainring that is larger in size, it will likely rub the chain stay Basis the size of the OEM fitted ring I am assuming this is an entry level Giant which is fitted with Praxxis cranks?
