Good day

We're off to the Eastern Cape and will stopping over in Graaff-Reinet.

I'm keen to cycle the the Valley of Desolation.  Just up and down from the park gate.

Does anyone have an idea how tough it is?  Especially road conditions?  I presume it's jeep track to the top?

Thanks so much.

Did it many years ago. Buy a permit at the gate and tar road to the top. Was a relaxing ride, just spin it up and do not stop untill the top. Just do it!

If you have a Gravel or mountain bike make sure you add some of the easy single track section in the park before going up the valley. This time of the year I would recommend riding up early as it gets quite hot in the day. The valley climb is pretty hard but well worth it. It's a very nice tar road up there but it has a very steep 800m long section in the middle. But you will be rewarded with great views all around. Highly recommended!
