Hi guys, just a question regarding the import of a Stages power meter

I know someone living in America who can buy a Stages Power meter for $300 (about R5100 today). I have seen them go for about R15k new in South Africa.

Is it possible for them to buy it and courier it via, say, DHL or FedEx to me in SA? I read somewhere about 15% duties on top of the purchase price, but it was a while ago, and I'm not sure how much import duties and taxes I would need to pay now.

The power meter has a CR2032 lithium battery in it. It is very small, so it shouldn't be a problem, right?

Any info regarding this would be much appreciated

Personally I would stay away from Stages power meters. Duties will most likely be VAT at around 16% of item value that will as any local shipping charges listed on the invoice. There is also normally a small broker fee that gets charged by the shipping company. The CR2032 battery should not be an issue.

With the new Import tax story from the states side, It will 45% all and all on your item price. I imported some gearbox parts for my aircooled vehicle and came in via FedEx from the states side, was around November. There is a new Import Code they implemented.

Shipping from the States has also gone up a lot, and you'll struggle with any warranty claims.

I just buy locally now. The Magene pedals are a good alternative to the Assiomas for R11k dual sided.
