This is our (myself and the wife) pride and joy. We have had the tandem now for about a year and we put special 34 spoke ZIPP wheels on it. It was, according to Marco, the first tandem in South Africa with ZIPP wheels. Since August last year we have seen one or two more tandems with ZIPP's on. It goes like a rocket, if we are in form smiley9.gif We've had a lot of success on it so far, that is if Jurie is not racing smiley36.gif

Yes, it looks very nice Pirate and I've seen you and the wife on it at races.  Friends of me has one like that and they love it.  I see there is one for sale in the classifieds for R6000.00, very good price for a very good tandem

I have the same bike.? Not sure about the Zipps and the weight though ?

We are very happy with our bike. We had a RAVO before we got the TITAN, but the Titan is much lighter and it climbs and sprints very nice. We bought the frame from Marco and built Shimano Ultegra parts on it.

Thank you backlash, yes we got the frame and fork for less than R2000 brand new. It is the best value for money on the tandem market. smiley20.gif

Pirate' date=' we raced against a tandem with powerade/Dome 2 Dome guys on it that had a 404 on the front and an 808 on the back.... schweeeet bike but I think they pipped you on the first-tandem-with-zipps prize[/quote']

I also saw a male tandem at the Argus in our group with a 808 at the back and a 404 at the front. That looks wicked ! Our first race on this bike with the wheels was at the Carousel last year, so might have made the prize after all smiley9.gif The ZIPP's make a huge difference, only down side is a cross wind smiley19.gif smiley19.gif

Pirate: How did the 404's hold up to the weight? and what (measured) advantage do you gain ....

I have a set of Equinox on my RB, anyone got some cheap 404's for my tandem ? Wink

Luckily myself and the wife weighs very little, she is less than 50 kg and I am 70 kg. So combined we weigh around 120 kg. The clydesdale ZIPP's have 32 spokes and are made for people of around 100 to 120 kilograms. These babies have 34 spokes and we have only broken a spoke once in almost one year now and that was at the Dome2Dome last year. So they can take probably up to 140 to 150 kg. Those guys with the 808's and normal 404's on their tandems are NUTS, those wheels are going to collapse one of these days at 60 km/h. Those ZIPP's were not made for that weight and power.

Find out from Marco at Cycle Tech if he can rather get you a set of 34 spoke ZIPP's for your tandem. smiley1.gif
