I had the hot dog at the 10min time stamp of the Paarl Droomers Nissan 45k race AND it was great :)

I figured that if I eat this lovely dog the antie is pointing my way I will at least have an excuse for racing this crap (even added some extra t-sauce and mustard)... The truth is I felt better after that dog...the SUPER DOG.

But read the fine print.

Fine Print : Results may varry and probably will... the fact is you have just about 0.5% chance of getting the desired result!

I found the race very hard. A steep climb out of the start always flattens me, although i have noticed that 'how steep' is the key as I get fitter and drop weight.

The Wolsely climb was loooong and fairly steep, but I kept up with the group around me (middle bunch) and felt quite good at the top. The Paarl climb was just that much steeper and the middle bunch blew me away in the beginning and I felt k@k. Obviously my power to weight ratio still sucks even if the fitness is improving.

Went to bed early, but did not sleep well. That might be the real reason as I often wake up tired after a restless nights sleep. Wide awake at 4am, exhausted at 6am smiley5.gif

Stratus, I agree. The initial climb was much tougher than Wolesly... the reason may be that at Wolesly I already had my scare after almost being taken out by a car 20 seconds after the start.... scary sht.

Opinion:

The Paarl start was a bit silly. The starting location was not very well thought out. One need time and some pedal pace to get the engin started and it would have helped if there was about 150m decent road before the climb. At least everyone was in the same boat and now we know for next time.

Even though i did not enjoy the route as much as most of the other races i did this year, I have to give the Rotary club and PPA a thumbs up on this one (no- im not a rotary memeber).  Good marshalling, good food, Rout map and profile before the race, parking for all (some in stellenbosch :) ) and they made bloody sure every one knew the route was slippery take care! ;) No serious, thanks for the event.

Before the whole carbo loading idea became such a big thing, Alan Robb used to have a steak, eggs and chips the night before then go on to win the comrades.
