  1. I snapped an achilles playing squash. All sorts of complications after op with nerves being cut accidentally etc etc. Now fat and lazy ...
  2. I see my sentiment has already been expressed almost verbatim. I cant find a way to delete a post though?
  3. As Dean hinted at ... a hot exhaust whilst your bike is on a rack will inflict similar damage
  4. Awesome downhill footage and depeche mode as a bonus
  5. If anybody has an entry up for grabs, please let me know. Thanks.
  6. I think for us migraine sufferers there is not much you can do. Mine seems related to exertion level. When I played squash I was almost guaranteed a good headache and vision problems after an intensive game. On the bike I can do a DC with no issues, But a couple of maximum exertion efforts in even a short race and its headache time. The next two or three days the head will feel bruised and uncomfortable. I only get these headaches from cycling.
  7. Lots of riding in the area. Head out north of town and then east over Dasklip pass (big climb ~500m vertical ascent). You could then head over the back down to Beaverlak and some of the trails down to the Olifants river, or stay up on the mountain and head south into the Groot Winterhoek reserve. In short lots of riding, but I don't know the best routes.
  8. There is somebody on the roof of that truck as well!
  9. Here is some amazing time lapse footage of the lenticular clouds forming over Table Mountain https://www.facebook.com/simon.bloomer.92/videos/10154408455594768/
  10. They are lenticulars, but even so they are quite special and not the normal wave cloud one sees downwind of table mountain on strong NW wind days. On this day we had unusual conditions with a SE pushing up and over the mountain from the south and a moderate to strong NW on the Northern side. The turbulence in the shear layer between the two layers must have been quite interesting and that with a very high moisture content of the air resulted in these beautiful clouds. Off course, it could just be the most obvious answer, which is aliens....
  11. Two bad accidents in DE on the Malmesbury road. One of my mates is in hospital with a broken collarbone and possible neck and back injuries from the first one. I am not sure if there were other injuries. I came off, but was unscathed as I managed to stay on my feet after dumping the bike. We formed a small chasing group and unfortunately about 2km later the front two riders touched wheels and came down hard at 50km/h. I managed to go off-road without falling, but after recovering turned back when I realised the guys were badly hurt. A fractured elbow for Luca Stermin and more serious injuries for the other. Definite broken collarbone (Bones did not break skin, but very obvious). Worried that he has broken ribs and possible pelvis problems. Hope they all heal up quickly.

  15. Its quite easy to make Basically just cheap silicone and cornstarch . http://www.instructables.com/id/How-To-Make-Your-Own-Sugru-Substitute/
  16. If after all advice fails, and you must glue, then without a doubt, use epidermix 372 only. Stay away from the pratleys and other quickset epoxies. They do have there uses, but pratleys in particular tends to be a little soft when set compared to a "real" epoxy.
  17. If somebody is too poor to afford a bible, then a donation of food, clothing or money would be a much kinder contribution. That would be better supported I am sure.

  19. I see there was a "hero" who won the D group road race by 10 min. Second place was a person with the same surname (Conradie) who was only 4 minutes ahead. Pity there was no break away from D group. If you are going to pull out and do the shorter route, please don't cross the mats ... or perhaps you have just over cheated in this case, such that its not subtle enough to pass.
  20. Website says we use our PPA numbers, so no collection required?
  21. I cant make it ... I have an entry for the 121km, which I will give away at no cost if anybody would like it. Craig
  22. Hi, A good friend of mind was sadly mugged of his bike and assorted personal items on Sunday lunchtime, on section of the cycle lane between Paarden Eiland and Woodstock. Cell phone, wallet etc. This was on the section parallel to the railway lines, just as you go over the bridge, where the marble tiling/counter shop is on your right as you head towards town. Two black men of possibly Tanzanian origin, armed with metal rods charged him from the freeway side before he could turn around. They escaped through the railway yard afterwards. He is physically unharmed, but angry as hell, and busy working through the psychological after effects. The police said they stopped patrolling the area, because there have been no muggings for a while doh! The Myciti bus that passed a minute later would not stop to find out if he was OK, but did contact ADT at the next stop, which took about 7 minutes to arrive, but bike etc was gone by then. Attached is a picture of his bike. Fairly vanilla unfortunately, but if anybody sees similar at a cash crusaders or bike shop second hand, please let us know. Blue garmin 500 was attached to the stem.
  23. I was there that day. The bus had not blown over yet, but had been shunted sideways and come to a halt. The first person out was the bus driver The bus was rocking wildly in the wind, but being a double decker, all the passengers on the lower level were trying to get out first and the people on the top were trapped. Myself and about three others hung onto the windows on the windward side until everybody got off. We begged the driver to come back and drive the bus another 20m, which would have been out of the venturi. He refused and after we dropped off the upwind side, it took another two minutes or so before a really big gust did turn the bus over. The really annoying thing was the papers made the bus driver seem like some sort of hero, because nobody got hurt, when in truth he was a coward and endangered everybody's lives on the upper floor. I traffic cop arrived and there were some great pictures of him break dancing in the wind trying to police the intersection. He got blown over regularly His mate arrived on a motorbike ... wheee whaaa wheee wham slam dunk .. blown right over. Only slightly hurt, but his ego was hugely dented. It does not blow quite as strongly through that venturi now. It still very impressive, but the building layouts have changed and diminished the wind slightly.

    Hell and Back

Bugger. Better dress warmly. Freezing level down to 2000m. This is going to be a cold and possibly wet ride on the Saturday.
  25. The 32 front ring -> 11-36 cluster on a 26'er is good for about 35 km/h before you start to spin out at a cadence of over 100 rpm. You need the 32 for any decent climb if you have a 11-36 cluster, but if you can do 11-42 and don't climb anything over 10% then I think a 34 would be better. Must be a huge market for anybody who could make a 10 speed 10-42 that fits the standard 10 speed hub.
