I fractured my spine in a car accident in primary school Dead  I usually go to the chiro' date=' let him pull me around a bit & stick a couple of needles in & it's sorted in a day or two.

After 16 years of been pulled around and been treated like a pin cushion I have had enough and can't carry on like this anymore. I can't even ride my bike the one sport that I discovered and truley enjoy doing.

Just plain GATVOL.Dead

dirty twin, just make sure that Dr. van aarde does the neuro part(removal of disc and cleaning around nerves)

Dr. De Jonge is the orthopaedic surgeon which will do the bone fusion part and they operate as a team.

You meed to be very carefull when visiting a chiro with a disc or impingement injury, the pressing and pulling can break the disc off or damage an already weakened vertebra.

DT, think carefully, speak to the neuro and make an informed decision on your particular issue, from the neuros I have spoken to all of them have suggested NOT to go the orthopedic route (ie) taking bone from the hip, its 10 years behind modern medicine, there are synthetic alternatives which are as good or better and you dont have the trauma of healing your hip as well as your neck.

stay away from a chiropractor!

you get to the point were a physiotherapist cannot relieve the pressure on the nerve end any more.i think Dirty Twin is at this stage.

then its time for the neurosurgeon so you can have quality of life again.

Porky is correct, the hip bit is old school and i dont think its done today.

so you are spared from the worst part of neck fusion.

after the 6 weeks in neck brace you should be able to do IDT or take it easy on the road. i will not advise you to go on the dirt with your mtb till the neck muscles has recovered.it took me more than 6 weeks to get on bike again, but that was due to my hip( that was @@##$ sore).

also the psychological aspect is huge, takes a while to realise that your head is not going to fall off if you do something.will i do it again?

YES, in a flash

I agree "stay away from Chiros" with a serious nerve impingement.

My neuro was fond of saying "The biggest cause of neck injuries in this country is rugby, the second is chiropracters"

Okay, Okay, before I start getting legal letters from chiropracters LOL who disagree, its very true, with a serious neck or back nerve or disc impingement a chiro will just make it worse, actually any chiro worth his / her salt wont even work on a patient with such an injury before at least getting a neuros permission and seeing a set of scans or X rays.
