RacerX' date=' the shift ratio on SRAM ESP deraileurs is not exactly one to 1:1 but closer to 1:1.2 The road derailleurs are slightly different again with a Shift ratio of 1:1.4.

Shimano is about 1: 1.8(something)

You may find ot difficult to get the indexing working correctly.

You could order a 10s DoubleTap Trigger shifter for city bikes and fit a 12-27 SRAM Road 10S cassette with the 10s Long Cage rear derailleur.

That should give you a working and reliable 30speed system.

Thanks GoLefty, been bashing my head all morning trying to figure out why I said 2:1.

Where did you get those figures, its very interesting how the exact ratio was worked out.

The indexing is working pretty well, I managed to carve another gear in the shifter, will post pics later.

When I have the money I probably go for a 12-29 Token cassette.

Triggers, what u smokingLOL. Gripshift or else I'll convert to road full time.LOL

I got the ratio's off one of the SRAM engineers cos I wanted to do something similar. He mentioned that actuation ratios are not exact. SRAM say 1:1 cos their actual ratios are rounded down and Shimano say 1:2 cos theirs is rounded up. This was a good 2yrs back so the exact numbers may not be 100% correct. I think there is a thread on this on the mtbr.com forum. The Road and MTB Sram kit is not directly compatible.

A work around is to fix the cable differently at the derailleur. If I recall, fixing on the inside edge instead of the outside edge brings the shift ratio closer. I'll dig the info out. I must have it somewhere on that 80G hardrive at home :)
