Silverback - what's with their sizes?

Right - It?s

been two years now I am trying to get one of them silverback bikes. Call me silly but I quite the brand, I like the concept and I really want to support an ambitious

small South African company. (In fact i never had a chance to ride one and I have no idea

how good they are - but i hear good things about them).

First

in 2007 I tried to buy a full suspension, couldn?t get one my size. I ended up

buying a Iron Horse instead (great bike). Then in 2008 I tried to get a Sierra, in 22?. Again, no large sizes ? I ended up buying a Jamis from the US (with loads of

logistics ? I live in swaziland. BTW, great bike too).

Finally,

I am trying to buy a road bike now ? would have fancied one of them Silverback monza (funny name name, but hey...). I am 193cm tall and was looking for a

62cm bike. Guess what - I am told by all dealer I call there aren?t any large sizes,

although I intentionally waited for the launching of the 2009 series, to make

sure I get one of the presumably few large ones. How is that possible? The

catalogue advertises them in that size as well.

Maybe there's something wrong with me? Are there no tall riders out there?.

Anyway - i have this money burning a hole in my pocket and need a 62cm road bike - silverback or not - what are my options?

well, actually, by  the book even 62 would be too small. my inseam is 96cm so by the 67% rule of thumb i would need a 64cm bike. Anyway, i have been ok with 62, i'd go with a 61 if available, but all this is beside the point.

The question is - how the hack can a tall fella spend 15k on a 62cm bike if the bloody factory won't make them, although  they advertise it. That's the weird thing right there and it ain't an accident neither as it happened to me before. Twice.

Could you find out from your uncle if it perhaps comes with tubeless ox wagon wheels?

tallfella' date=' we also struggled to get stock of some of the bikes you mention. resulted in quite a few lost sales. [/quote']

but that's exactly what i mean! one of the reasons why one would go for a small, local brand is the flexibility. I find it very weird that even dealers have to struggle and lose sales in a size that is advertised as standard (and surely is standard for other brands).

well i guess i'll have to do the usual - get me an international brand and get on with it.

to be honest, we also had the same hassles with some international brands too.

Tallfella i can offer you an RS5 frameset in size 60 for R9k if you would be interestedWink

tokenfreak, thanks mate but i really can't be bothered to put a bike together now. parts are expensive and hard to come by in swaziland and i rather buy a whole bike with a good frame and weaker components and upgrade it slowly. And i really don't want to compromise on fit too much. i'd prefer to stick to 61 or 62.
