Since I have a respiratory dis-order (unilateral diaphragmatic paralysis) I'm quite interested to know if there is a category in the Paralympics for people like me...

As far as I can find, there isn't but I wonder if anyone else on the Hub has ever searched for the same answer?

I think it's only fair to have a category for this - I mean, it's quite an imperative part of being an athlete; people dope to just get a 5% increase in performance, I'm losing like 15%! Or am I just being selfish?

I sent them the following e-mail, but they just responded (quite quickly actually - it only took like 30mins) that I must contact SASCOC Confused That'll take at least a year to get a response!

My e-mail:

"Dear

IPC,

I am a 22 year old cyclist with

unilateral diaphragmatic paralysis (I have provided a link below), due to

complications during my birth. I also recently (2003) underwent heart surgery to

plug up an atrial septal

defect.

I

was wondering whether there are

any categories for athletes with respiratory disorders such as my own, or are

athletes with such disorders not taken into

account?

I look forward to your

response.
