Speedplay are crap in my opinion. I got sold into the whole lightweight nonsene blah blah. I have a?digital scale at home which can meaure very light weight. Yes the pedals themselves?are ligher tham most (steel pedal equivalent)?but as soon as you add the cleat system which you obviously have to use the total system is HEAVIER than most other well known?steel?pedal/cleats combo's. Also did not like the small surface area you push off. Got heat spots on my feet when i rode hard (intervals)?or for more than 3 hours?and i have the best?cycling shoes you can?buy.

I changed to LOOK Keo carbons about 2 weeks later and haven't looked back since.

?

This is obviously my personal choice but these get a thumbs down for me.

Which Speedplays were you riding?

Thumbs%20Down

Good marketing. I was also sold on the lack of weight till I weighed the cleat as well and then I realised that these are amongst the heaviest of the high end pedals out there. Also the small bearings don't like like they will last long.

The weight already annoyed me since they market these as the lightest pedals.

CrankBros Eggbeater MTB pedals are lighter and there is a road cleat available to use with them. even the EB SL which costs R1300 is lighter than these.

Not worth the money at all

I'd look at the

Look Keo

Time RXS

Crank Bros Eggbeater SL or 2Ti or 4Ti

speedi not everything you read is true i rode a set of speedplay pedals for a week as a test set and hated every minute of it you can walk to your bike if the ground is slippery(italian tiles) you wont be able to clip out in a hurry if you have the limits set at the claimed 15' float or something and most of the time it is hard to find the pedals

whereas on my looks i not only can walk on slippery surfaces but i can run thanks to them being slightly more grippy thanks to the new rubberising on the cleats clip in is as easy as clipping out in a hurry i have never pulled out of my Keo's my pedals are supposedly "worn" out but i find no fault while riding and racing them the retention is adjustable and there are three kinds of float available that have worked for however many years without issues

thats my 5cents worth use it, dont use it (your choice)

Oops, but I digress! When I was a lightie I loved those Time Racing and Criterium pedals, they gave loads of lateral float but were a special mission to clip into. As an old fart, I therefore bought Time RXS pedals...no float!! For the first time ever I was getting ankle and knee pain. Chucked those for a set of lollipops, absolutely love them. As much float as I want as they are fully adjustable, positive action to clip into and out of. They sometimes get a bit 'sticky' on clipping out, but read the manual they give you and you'll find that chucking a bit of Squirt on the circlip gets it working A-OK again. And you will never accidentally pull out of these bad boys! I give them a big ole Thumbs%20Up...even though I fully agree they may not be for everyone! (which is probably why Look and Time and Shimano are still selling bucketloads of pedals...)

The bigger the job, the bigger the hammer. Looks like I'm going to have to reach for the 14-pounder. (more like around the 14-pounder, har de har)Pinch
