I've got a set of Ksyriums ES spcial edition's. Those red and black ones. Thebearings on the front wheel gave in and it seems that the back wheel is not too far behind. Question is should I fix them or not? No spoke problems yet.

Question is how long will they last? This set is on its first set of tyres and already giving trouble. I dont want to spend money on a set of wheels and they let me down and have to spend money on continiously.

How did the front bearing give in. I ride the same wheels and have done 3500km on them with not a single problem. Had the SL's before them and 7000km no problem barring a broken driveside spoke.

Those wheels use standard cartridge bearings - I don't know which bearing number but they're available from Bearing Man. Bearings are consumables and sometimes they last a long time, sometimes, not. You've just  had some bad luck this round.

I'll keep on replacing bearings until you start striking spoke or rim problems and then replace those wheels. Their running cost up to that point is similar to other wheels.

I suggest once you've removed or exposed the bearings and you can read the number on the side of the seal, you buy yourself an extra set for next time. With the right little tool you can quickly swap the bearings out in the ad break between two lousy TV programmes.

I'm throwing a Yellow Saddle Open Day at the end of this month. You're welcome to bring your wheels around and try your hand at replacing the bearings. Just get the bearings beforehand.

Thanks Johan. I have worked enough on Clayson Harvestors in my younger days to know how to replace a bearing. Seeing that I can get them from Bearing Man and not Ksyrium I will do this myself.

Excellent, with that background it'll be a cinch for you. Just use a smaller hammer and thinner wire.

Just replace bearings on Ksyrium SL yesterday. (on the back wheel) It takes 3 bearings. 2 x 608-2rsh (skf)

                             1 x 6903 DDUCM (NSK)

All available from bearing man.The total cost for all 3 is R140.00.Surely cheaper than a new wheelset.
