Hi i recently got a carbon frame and do a lot of indoor training during the week. I have not yet ridden my bike on the indoor trainer because i am worried that the carbon fibre my take too much stress and brake. So i am wondering if it is ok to ride on the indoor trainer with a carbon frame????

I used a Trek Carbon (OCLV) bike for lots of indoor training and never had any problems.  Suppose we feel sorry for our carbon beauties, which makes us worry, but I recon these frames are very strong.

Any frame on an indoor trainer is fine as long as you use it as per the manufactures instructions.

Frames and IDT's are perfectly safe its the idiot person using them thats dangerous Wink

I asked the shop about this when I bought my carbon frame and they said it would be fine.

In hindsight, it was a bit of a silly question for an engineer to ask. A CF frame should have a similar strenght to an Al frame.

I haven't done any calculations, but I reckon the most abnormal loads are imposed on the IDT when you lean to either side. In this case, I reckon you'll cause the whole trainer set up to fall over before you break the rear triangle.
