Which tubbies should I use for racing? I'm buying a set of Zipp 202's which will require me to change from clinchers to tubbies, which are the best one's that I can use for racing? Ouch Spartan SL2008-10-06 11:11:25

There is a Vredenstein Fortezza SL version, which retails around R700 ... I am not sure what type is advertised on the cyclingshop website .. sounds like a entry level tubby or midrange ...

Spartan SL .. check again on that website .. drill under wheels .. tubular ... the vredensteins under that tab is R999, which sound right ....

Those of R459 are clinchers!

Spartan ... base on you getting ZIPP 202, I presume you are going to use these rims for hilly course racing??? what the ZIPP 202 was designed for!

If so then I would recommend you get a tubby with thread ... not a slick type ...

There are cheaper tubbies on the market <R200 ... but they are more training type tubbies.

It's for the hills that I want them. I was going to look at the Zipp 303's as an all-round wheel (no pun intended) but as I have an open-ended loan of a set of Hed Jet 60's I thought it was better to go for the reduced weight of the 202's.

Spartan ... compare cwcycles.co.za tubby prices ... with totalcycling.com ... if you do a substancial order from totalcycling, it pays to get the Continental Gatorskins Tubby ... if not then cwcycles Vittoria Corsa CX at around R550 is a good price ... if you going to use you tubbies for racing ONLY, then get decent tubbies ...

Spartan ... there are no import duties at SA side, only 14% VAT and a levy of 10% of VAT (so generally just make the VAT 15.4%) ... offcourse the shipping cost ... thats all.

Klapperknop.. thanks for all the advice. I went with the Vredestein Fortezzas which I purchased through my LBS. I try to support the LBS when I buy tyres and spare parts etc 'cos after all they're the guys who keep my ride running smooth and I do like the human interaction, and the peace of mind that comes when you know you can exchange a faulty item.
