I lived in EL for a number of years and in the Transkei region for a lot longer and have fond memories of that track.

I've been racing the National circuit for 15 years and the East London track is truly the best track in the country. Potters pass is a fast sweep taken at over 230 while some classes go through rifle bend at over 260. When some of the British Touring car stars raced here in the 90's they were blown away by the track and some even said it was madness as the speeds scared them!

The race there is a highlight every year and with 2 circuit Nationals, One motard and a National bike day it brings in about 5000 poeple per annum including families, crew and competitors. These people stay for three days at a time and need to sleep eat and spend their money which is a huge boost to the local economy. Plus the National cycle races and new car launches that use the track's facilities.

Come on guys ....this is honestly the best track EVER!!!

Yes I do remember that big crash - must've been in '84 I think - I was fortunate never to have a biggie at EL but have a look at this pic to see what was left of my 1100R.

Incidentally Pocketbikes, I had the scrap rebuilt & even raced it at Donnington a few months later - see pic below.

By the way I've signed the petition to save the circuit - lets hope it has some impact - I also raced at the last race ever at the old Roy Hesketh circuit in PMB in 1981 (where I came second to the late great Keith Petersen) in the 750 race - apparently the circuit has been reopened almost in its original design except for the sweep/angels which I believe was been altered slightly

Incidentally idrive, what & when did you race?
