X-Country

Hi

I would like to start taking part in adventure races and would require a x-cross country bike.

Any suggestions on which bike to get? I am looking at spening R8000.00 at the most.

Peace out

The unfortunate reality is that adventure races are bad for bikes. If you only plan on doing short adventure races then don't spend 8K on a bike.

agreed...

Unless you have loads of tom and can fork out on replacing parts and frames every so often.

If you are serious about AR. Then spend. But if you are just trying. Start small.

None of the any adventure races that I have done are bad for bikes, certainly no worse than some of the MTB races that I have done, such as Knysna, Trans-baviaans, Epic

Damn, come and see what my bike looks like after a couple of Swazi Xtremes and The Bull !!

An MTB race such as Sabie Experience and Sani 2 C is tame in comparison.

If you are only doing sprint AR's then I might agree. The longer races however usually involve transporting the bikes between transition points over rough roads and they often get scratched or knocked. The AR's that I've done included climbing over numerous fences, swimming across rivers, scrambling up rock faces, making paths through dense bush etc with our bikes.

LOL

That isn't the problem. Wink

It's the barb wired fences, the hike-a-bike sections, the constant loading and unloading of bikes from trailers, the transportation of bikes between transition areas etc etc.

And I am back at work. The joys of working like an owl in the night. Thank you very much for all the assistance.

I found a Scott Aspen with Deore LX componentry and it is in spotless condition so I will most probably be getting that to take part in Sprint races and progress to a better bike once I have improved my skills, fitness etc.

I should've joined this places ages ago - I love it here =)
