jpb13 Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 hi all i'm new to the hub and i think it's awesome! i'm thinking of buying either clinchers or tubulars, but i'm having some difficulty in making up my mind. i want to use the wheels for triathlon. in essence i suppose the question comes down to peace of mind vs plush ride. any ideas?jpb132008-10-15 10:55:10

Christie Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 For Tri, easy descision, I would go for clinchers. Tubbies are very expensive a hassle to replace when they puncture - very NB to consider since you are not allowed support with triathlons. Triathlons dont go over mountains, so the bit of extra mass of clinchers wont matter. Consider Zipp808s, Zipp makes the most aerodynamic wheels money can buy, and their clinchers are claimed to br very strong. Alternatively, some 404 clinchers have sold for around R5000 per set on the hub before. Lots of other deep section options to consider - Mavic Cosmics, full carbon clinchers like Reynolds DV46C, Egde (American) 68mm, of if you want to spend mega $$$, some Lightweight clinchers. turtlek Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 There are some awesome clinchers out there that can be pumped up to about 12bars and give the same rolling resistance as some high end tubbies and it is definitely easier to sort out if you get a puncture jus remember to carry tubes with long enough valve extensions to be able to pump them up if you have deep section wheels
niterider Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 No contest really. Clinchers have LOWER rolling resistance than tubbies. And who wants all the hassle of gluing tubbies anyway?
jpb13 Posted October 15, 2008 Author Posted October 15, 2008 yeah it seems clinchers is the winner. that's a very interesting comment niterider, i wasn't aware of that. the debate however, will go on and on and on....
