Does anyone know where I can get KMC Missing Link chain connectors for Campag 10sp in Joburg?

I have tried the SRAM link and it causes the chain to skip in the 53-11 gear combo.

I don't know and would also be interested. We used a SRAM link today and although it doesn't cause the chain to skip, it is impossible to remove again. Why the hell pay R35 for something that cannot be removed if you can just use a Shimano link pin for less than R10?

May I suggest that you wiggle your chain at the frozen link sideways. Grip it either side of the link and do a semi-strong lateral bend. This usually sorts out stiff links. I assume it is the stiffness that makes it skip.

It's quite simply a matter of convenience, if something happens on the ride like a link getting bent or a chain breaking because somebody re-used the old pin, you simply have to remove the two outer plates leaving you with the two male parts, the inner of the chain, popping in the masterlink is a doddle and the chain stays at the same length.

It didn't appear to be a stiffness problem. I took the SRAM link off today (using a pair of water pump pliers Confused) and before doing so, did actually check to see if it might be sticking. It felt like it was moving perfectly, so I don't think that was the problem.

The problem only occurs in the 53-11 combo at higher (>70) cadence and load. It's OK in all other gear combos on my 11-23 cassette and all combos on my 12-25 cassette and only crops up at high speed.

I think it might have something to do with the width of the link (it looks wider than the rest of them to me) but I haven't followed up on this.

I put a KMC Shimano link in its place (yes, my Campag chain did try to bite me) and the problem seems to have disappeared. I'll know for sure after my ride tomorrow.

If you're looking for some KMC Shimano links, I've got two pairs that I don't mind passing on to you after you helped me with the lockring a while back.

I tried the waterpump pliers today and couldn't get it off that way. Now I'm thinking of something a bit more subtle....like an angle grinder.

We didn't test the bike under the conditions you describe but I'll do so tomorrow and let you know if we have the same problem. It is a Shimano setup though.

Thanks for the offer. I appreciate it. Hold on to your links for now. If I can't find any close by, I'll shout.

I'll measure the link's width compared to the chain's. It simply has to be wider since a Shimano chain has just about zero pin protrusion.

Thanks again.
