Basically' date=' what's the difference? From what I can figure, attack is the newer version of the same thing?[/quote']

This is from distant memory, so I hope I'm not wrong...

Rocket is for Shimano derailleurs, Attack is for SRAM derailleurs.

I have SRAM Rocket Shorties on my MTB.  I use an XTR rear derailleur and an Ultegra cassette. Front derailleur is Shimano LX.   I'm extremely happy with the SRAM Rocket Shorties.

On SRAM's website it says the attack is 2:1, but no mention of rocket - AFAIK the ones with numbers are for SRAM, and the ones with names are Shimano

All Sram X series shifters are Sram rear deraileur compatible, ie: 1:1 ratio.

Rocket and Attack are Shimano compatible, ie: 2:1 ratio.

Attack uses metal parts and a few aesthetic upgrades from Rocket.

Shweeeet... thanks guys! Can always rely on hubbers for 5 second replies to anything (except the question about mounting LX shifters to anything other than the brake levers they came on... but that was a different post)

You're right about both Attack and Rocket being for Shimano, but not about Attack having upgrades from Rocket.

ChainReaction labels Attack as "performance level" while Rocket is "competition level" (and more expensive).  You can see this by comparing the Attack and Rocket Trigger Shifters:

ChainReaction doesn't have Rocket twist shifters (that I could see), but I'm sure they stick to Rocket being the top of the range while Attack is lower priced.
