Hansom tandem???

the only tandem i have found for sale in durban is a hansom for R2500? i have never heard of this brand? anyone know anything about hansom tandems??

Hansom was a local brand made here by Gotti Hansen. This is a steel tandem, probably circa late 80s, early 90s. To make it useable in today's world you'll have to replace the rear wheel and bend open the rear stays in order to fit the wider hubs we use on tandems today.

 

It is more than likely a 7-speed and 7-speed screw-on clusters are extinct, hence the new style wheel required.

Cannondale, Ravo and Raleigh are probably the brands you should consider. 

 

Ravo is probably only available 2nd hand now.  I think the Ravo frame is made in the Kinesis factory in Taiwan - same as the Raleigh.  I've raced on the Ravo and was impressed, although I can't really compare it to any other make since it's the only tandem I've ridden.

As far as I can recollect the Peugeut tandem frames made at Babalegi were made from steel. When they moved to Silverton they made Aluminium tandem frames as well as the Zini road frames.

what do you think about a Titan, i raced the amashova from PMB to Durbs on one with someone who needed a partner, but i also cant compare that to anything?
