Bike Rack and towbar for citi golf

Hi there. I need some advice please.

 

I drive a citi golf and I need a towbar inorder to carry my bike around.

 

Will any towbar work for the bike rack and wheres the best places to get a towbar and a bikerack.

No. You get towbar mounted bike racks that either mount onto the ball itself or that mount onto the plate. A gooseneck towbar doesnt have this plate and so the cheaper plate mounted racks wont fit. A more expensive rack such as a Thule will fit onto any towbar as it mounts directly onto the ball.

 

That said a gooseneck tow bar will be more expensive than a plate one.

Get a Thule Clip-on rack which doesn't need a towbar.

I would just get a nromal towbar with the face plate from Steel lite or Speedy. Then get a stand up rack from Hold Fast so that you do not need to remove any wheels. Will proberbly cost you R3500 for everything.

Speak to Stirling @ Load & Go in Bree st. They have Thule and Holdfast stuff, and can tell you pretty much anything about attaching a bike to a car.

 

 

 

From experience, the racks that don't need a towbar are a bit painful if you use them a lot cos of the straps. I bought a Thule ride-on (your wallet will hurt) and it's way better than anything that the bike hangs from. No swinging and scratching, and you don't have to take the wheels off. Holdfast do a similar one, but not quite as good/stiff/easy to mount.
