Hit & Run - Parklands

so my saturday started off at 5am as usual and left home around 5.30 to the southern suburbs....wind and all, it was a good ride and i was feeling great, even taking some pics of simonstown from redhill...anyway, 135kms later and i'm 2km from home in parklands and i cross one of the two circles in the area....BAM!!! i get taken out by an idiot who did not yield or stop when entering the circle from my left. he then proceeded to speed away, but not before i got his registration

 

i am so lucky that he more hit my rear wheel and frame, but my left leg also took a hit. needless to say i went flying but am thankful that i could walk away from the incident relatively ok

 

now i have no bike, and my 1st attempt at the DC seems gone with the wind

i'm all drugged up now, but with the pain i am in, i think i'm out. and of course tomorrow morning i'll feel even worse!

 

the car was a red Ford Sierra with licence plate VKJ268NC. i did not get a look at the occupants

i am pretty sure i got the plate right, but am not sure about the NC part. a witness said it was nothern cape plates...do u get NC plates? i thought i saw EC though

 

so if anyone in my areas spots this car please let me know...it's a long shot but worth a try

its a good thing that you didnt get too badly hurt...hopefully they catch the bastard and he gets a humungus fine...good luck with the leg etc . hope you up and cycling soon

This is so f*@k's me off, witnessed a hit and run in Fish Hoek last year this time. Glad you're mostly okay though.

 

You open a hit and run with the police yet ? Particuarly if you have a witness as its not just your word against thiers and if you have any medical bills not covored the case number will help you claim from the road accident fund.

NC plates are Northern Cape, Upington etc. It's distinctively different with a green font: http://www.worldlicenseplates.com/world/AF_ZANC.html

yip i reported it....

a police van passed their minutes after it happend as well and i gave them the car details....they then went looking in the direction

i must drop off the medical report by saps tomorrow

Make sure you report it to the police. Take pics of the damage, keep copies of doctors bills etc. Unless the vehicle is stolen the police should be able to take things further. Hit and run is a pretty serious offence.

On a bit of a diffrent note I rode through 2 road blocks at around 5 this morning in the Rivonia area, both had people who where being arrested for being under the influence. Good on the SAPS.

If you can, try claim from the RAF

 

They should be able to compensate you for medical (up to 160,000k)

i would like them to compensate for me a new bike!

 

i'll check the real damage of the bike tomorrow. i didnt handle the bike after the incident, but i know the back wheel is buckled big time, and we couldnt get the wheel off. the jockey was hanging all over the place

 

not sure if the frame can be knocked right. is that wise to even try???
