Never! Just must learn to float on the bike, not to try and sit the poor thing half dead/into the ground - it is a bicycle, not a Lazy Boy recliner!

Eish, another trick to learn. Speed, cadence, float, rubber side down, cleats, STI's farm gates, loops, endurance, HRM .....

I thought cycling was supposed to be simple.

Only thing I get to float are the molars when I been on the bike for 3 hours and I have had a lot of water and energade. Now that was an easy trick to learn. Floating bikes, Dude, my bike is steel, it will sink. You sure you not thinking of canoeing?

Like you being a duathlete, triathletes do swimming and canoeing. Floating is good in the pool / dam/ pool / sea. I have a suspicion, if my bike is floating, I'm doing it in the wrong place.

'sides that water is frikkin cold in winter.

Nee man! Floating as in what MTB'ers do. They use their knees to absorb the shock which normally gets transplanted to your nether regions via the seat/seatpost if you don't use your natural shock absorbers. MTBers scout the terrain ahead as well!

Now with roadies and bunches you can't scout ahead as easily... but you can still learn to 'float' on the bike and not to recline into the seat (it is too small in any case!)

At least pump em 130 psi (not sure what bar that equates to), it also depends on what your weight is.

Off course roadies can ride over rough surfaces - ever heard of or watched the Paris - Roubaix race?

I think one should be using his hands, forearms, knees, and upper legs to absorb the shock on uneven surfaces. If you are glued to the seat throughout a ride, you will be uncomfortable in the region/s under discussion.

I have never heard about the floating, but it makes sense yes.

Trubie, when are you doing another duathlon ??

Ox, I admit I hate riding on rough surfaces. I'll leave the rough rides to Nancy smiley2.gif

Slave, I have to clean my bike if I feel energetic this afternoon I'll clean it today and ride tomorrow otherwise I'll clean it tomorrow and ride on Sunday.

GO, can we place bets ?

I need to win some money and it will give some motivation to win.

Not sure when Kid, I wanted to do the one in potch on Oct 4, but its the same day as Randwater Race for victory (which is also this threads official race for the year, as it takes place in our backyard/hunting grounds), so I cannot let that pass, so I will only attempt another Duathlon in 2010. The previous one hurt so much, I am very reluctant before I am fully fit and able to run at 4:30 p/km...

You are aware that from Sep / Oct you can do triathlon's (Energade's).

A fine athlete like yourself should manage these with great ease.
