predictor, remember that triathlons (especially the ironman) are mostly a running event. H311 even a duathlon is basically a running event!

The swim and cycle in a ironman are just means to get to the marathon! smiley2.gif

Check the results as well, those that do well in the ironman has the running leg smiley2.gif as their best (comparing position in each individual leg).

I might still have the spreadsheet indicating that somewhere (this years ironman) let me know if you want it.

Hey Trubes... speak of lunies.. speaking of yourself? smiley36.gif

I had a 'nice' undulating 15km run this afternoon... Total ascent for the 15km run was 426m... Little bit up and down! Was a good leg jellyfier for the Dome2Dome tomorrow! Maybe I can be the first home for the JL group? smiley36.gifsmiley36.gifsmiley36.gifsmiley36.gifsmiley36.gif

Safe trip to the Dome tomorrow morning, and enjoy the race! Might see some of you there...

AgterOs, I cannot agree with you more. I have done the IM 3 times now and each time bombed on the run. I concentrated on MTB this year as I was doing the Epic. One week after the Epic I went into the IM as strong as I could be on the Bike. I ended with a 5:48 bike leg on a road bike with Tri bars. I bombed with the marathon taking an Epic 5:50 to make up a total time of 13:31. I am thus doing about 40km of running in the week with a big MTB effort over the weekend in preperation for the next IM. I am planning to do some swimming soon. Good luck to all of you people in the DtD.

Yikes, with all due (and unduesmiley4.gif) respect you are even more daft than a training partner of mine... he did the Ironman AND the Comrades this year!

Will 40km of running a week be enough for the Ironman? Reason I ask is that I have started a program doing ~40-45km of runs a week, and I would NEVER imagine being able to do the Ironman on that... All I am preparing for are some duathlons next year... (sprint and maybe Olympic length)

The plan is to do 40km running per week + Double SBR on MTB for first 12 weeks the end in Crater Cruise. I have 2 weeks off then start second 12 week block 40 - 60 km Running + double SBR on Sat and 2hour swim on Sunday. This takes me to Attakwas. Then I put the MTB away and do 6 hours of TT on Indooe trainer T,W,T,F and do either 21 or 42 on Sat with 2 hour swim on Sunday. I hope to do some of the running in SBR. This takes me to IM 2010. I am also planning the Comrades next year and all depends on whether I can keep myself injury free in the lead up and IM. I am executing well on the plan thus far. Just need to figure out the brick workouts. SBR was tough today and I got some real head wind after making the turn at Sedaven dam. Did a double in just under 6 hours.

Hey Trubie, I was an overweight middle aged man just on 4 years ago. I was on Medicine every three months and I could not walk up the stairs at work. I decided to start this cycling thing and I am HOOKED. Cycling might not help you live longer due to so many reasons other that fitness BUT it surely can help you live stronger.

Predictor, looks like you have decidedto make yourself at home on our whacky thread.

Welcome. Where in GP are you?

We sometimes arrange ASGR hub rides, just a few of us regulars loonies like Trubie, Andy, the kid, his kid, teeny, Greyowl, yours truly, etc to go for organised rides. We try and average around 30 km/h depending on the route but we generally have some fun doing it.

Usual meeting place is Bracken City, Rietvlei, or Xumbugs. We do our own rides and routes on these occasions. Otherwise we meet with the usual  bunch of suspects and do the usual loops the rest of the time.

On Sunday, we are leaving at 06h15 to do most of the Race 4 Victory route in prep for the race and special (secret (It become less secret once posted))  training.

If you are up to it, you are welcometo join us. Since we areleaving early and we are less likely to get lost (as in unidentifiable) in the usual bunch, we will be meeting at Xumbugs. Corner Klipriver Drive and Swartkoppies.

Times posted here are usually departure times from Xumbugs.

Hey Slave and comp. Sorry for only replying now but I was overwhelmed by my work the last couple of days. The ride sounds awesome and I am so tempted but without making any excuses I have promissed my daughter we would go and buy her a new cell as hers got some water dammage. I have to keep my prommises to her first and foremost and thgus will not make it this Saturday. I am however going to do a double in SBR this sunday if anyone is keen. I would love to go and do a ride with you all in the very near future. PS I live in Meyerton and thus all my riding in SBR. and also not far at all to meet u with you all. Thanks for the invite and I am most certaionly going to take you up on the offer.

Hi All,

<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I have great news to report and that is that I renewed my 6 month pass with SBR on Monday. With the good news comes the bad news.

I spoke to Sibusiso Thusi from SBR and he is the spokesperson / manager regarding the cycling. It is clear that a motion was put forward by the management of SBR to close SBR to cyclist.

Gravity heard correctly and apparently a lady riding in the wrong direction collided with a car and had to be airlifted to hospital. Sibusiso was extremely accommodating and very open to suggestions to make SBR a place that EVERYONE could enjoy.

I am going to start a Post ( Group Rides ? SuikerBosRand suggestions) where I will be making some suggestions and want as many people as possible to add to the tread. I am very keen to keep on cycling in SBR as I only live 20km away and this is the ultimate training ground for me.

I must be honest when I say that whenever I ride in SBR there is always someone riding in the wrong direction. Keep an eye out for the post and please contribute wherever you can.

I committed to Sibusiso that I would get back to him with some suggestions on how we as cyclists believe we can ride safely in the reserve.

a little birdie told me there were some fireworks on sat morning on the nampak loop.

anyone know anything about this?

It is rumoured that some of the esteemed riders of the ASGR team, rode like someone with an old women's legs, or the more favoured one - someone who has/ is returning from flu...........

hope it wasn't someone who deliberately tried to disgrace the teamsmiley19.gifsmiley19.gifsmiley19.gif

thought Ox was going to stay North this weekendsmiley2.gifsmiley4.gif

I have only once encountered riders from the wrong direction........

start that thread, sure you will get lots of good and some not soooo good suggestions
