@Slave, enjoyed your write ups, one thing you should know is still to be wary on the steps, I was on my TT and pulled ahead of the bunch last year, coming down the straight towards the bridge intersection.

Coming up the steps, I was viciously attacked, knocked off at 37km/h , stabbed and ended up second best with 4 broken ribs. Stick with the bunch or as many as you can, I never go up there on my own or without a large group. Worst part is the people getting dropped off the back become targets for these bastards.

So, now thats out the way, if you ever want on a Thursday or Friday morning, TT 40km loop 54 minutes, just hang in, its a lung breaker ;-)

Seen plenty people going up & down the steps alone.

Glad you recovered and are back on the bike.

40km in 54min - eish that's for the serious racing snakes..

MDW as far as I nkow, from a number of people jacked on that section of the road, they wait either at the top of the first step (where the railway line used to cross) and take out those who have dropped out the back. :o

Not that I think this is good practice but logically, anyone not able to stay with the bunch going up the steps, has big potential to be a target. Usually they will be huffing and blowing so badly, they will not be in any shape to offer any resistance. (It happened to a friend). So, the MO is pretty sound because the rest of the bunch are riding away and so intent on riding, they have no idea of whats going on behind them and the person dropped, probably becomes a victim.

They have also been known to attack groups of three where one or two of the group may include women.

I can relate to the pain of four broken ribs dude. Did a similar thing in January and other than long commutes to work, the singe biggest factor for my not having been for a bunch ride on the weekends.

I miss it enormously and might just go for one on Sunday. I will be recovering tomorrow from a rather hectic ride to work this morning.

A personal best at 1 hr 20 from Alberton to Melrose. :)

Nah, kid, even the short loop will be long for me.

I am only used to riding distances of 30 km at a time. And there are plenty traffic lights in between so I get loads of rest stops. :)

Even though it's 30km back home in the arvie, there is a long rest between the Am ride and the Pm ride.

I think at least with the slow bunch, they will stop on the bridge for me to take a rest. You think we can appeal to Spas09's desire to help his fellow man and organise a medical team for me on the bridge. Will probably need another at the top of each of the steps.

I have not had one bunch rise this calender year. :( :(

@Slave, you easily do the loop with the slow bunch, did it last week and it's at a really slow pace, no need to stop on the bridge.

Probably doing it tomorrow again, if you were keen to do it tomorrow I've bring the whip along.

Sticks and stones may break my bones (actually it's falling off the bike), but whips and chains excite me. ;)

You'll bring the whips along? Just for me? You sir, are a scholar and a gentleman. :P

Tomorrow, I'll need to recover a bit from this mornings exertionsand I still have to ride home this arvie.

I have great need to vacate the house for a few hours tomorrow and Sunday but I think your whip will be as nothing comapred to wifey's broom.

Hey HB. No ride yeasterday morning. Decided to save the energy for today. B)

Had a tough commute this morning in rough wind. It wac actually a scary ride because I was in Lala-land most of the way and I cannot recall whether or not I stopped at intersection Columbine and Klipriver. If I didn't stop, could not even begin to tell you whether or not the traffic light was red, green or in between.

That scared me so much, I decided to get with the program and actually concentrate on riding and listening to traffic. You know like actually being on the bike with the body that was turning pedals. :o It is usually times like this that accidents happen because we are not paying attention.

Antyway, looking forward to the ride home with this wind as a tail wind. :)

Say, BigS, without giving anything away, are you going to put me outof my misery and let me in on the secret of your identity? Doesn't really matter since I'm likely to forget in ten minutes time anyway. :(

No just the touch Trubie. Looks like the mind is going, going, gone.

Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most. Come to think of it, how can I lose something I never had? :(

My mind used to wander, now it leaves me completely. I'm at that point in life now that when I stop to think, I forget to start again.

What were we discussing again? Oh yes, the weather is..... zzzzzz.
