Why? I ride safely in the North, Nancy rides safely in the North, Ha Ha rides safely in the North and many others. But so glad to see that you appreciate my sense of humour! :D

U dont ride, your bike unless its a race.

You dont ride in the North, its west.(Cradle and all)

Northcliff isnt North Andy, its central or central west

Driving around the North in yr car as Ha Ha and DD doesnt count as its not cycling

that is why it was hilarious

good laugh to end the day :)

Northcliff is in the north! West would be Florida, Roodepoort, Krugersdorp.

Cradle is North West!

then you complain about my geography..............

so where does the north start then Andy?

I suppose by your description , Fourways, Sandton, Bryanston, Rivonia is so far north its in Limpopo? And Midrand in Zim?

North is north of JHB Central so you could say from about Empire northwards. South is south of JHB Central so you could say south of M2. East would be Edenvale, Kempton Park, Bedfordview. West is Roodepoort, Florida, Krugersdorp. Cradle is north west. Midrand would fall under the north. Bryanston, Rivonia are in the true north.

Be that as it may, how was everyone's riding this morning? I tested the Trek and Shimano Ultegra is TERRIBLE compared to SRAM Red. The shifting is "soft" and the brakes are dragging. SRAM Red the shifting is solid and crisp and the brakes drop anchor. When I brake with SRAM I immediately feel them bite and feel their power. The Ultegra brakes give me the feeling that they are gradually biting and have little braking power. The handling of the Trek compared to my Specialized is shocking. The Specialized with SRAM is like a Ferrari 458 while the Trek with Shimano is like a Hyundia Atos!

Imagine what it will feel like when you try Campag.

BTW you can't compare Yankee stuff to Italian stuff & Jap stuff to Korean stuff.

SRAM is like a CHEV or a FORD while Campag is like a Ferrari or a Lambo & Shitmano is like a Toyota.

I think you should go back to school and re-do geography.

I was on the IDT (martelraampie) for an hour last night, and ran 8km this morning. The sudden cycling (I started last week Thursday) caught up with me this morning. The legs are a bit achy right now:(

Kid, with Campy I would probably get hugely frustrated by that stupid little lever. As I pointed out to Nancy this morning, exactly where my thumbs felt comfortable, those little levers would be. With SRAM there is one lever for all the shifting. How do you shift with your hands on the drops with Campy? SRAM you can shift with minimal hand movement.

Btw, I know where America, Italy and Japan are. Besides Sweden and Finland are much better countries!

I ride with my hands in teh drops and still shift without any hassle

I use my thumb to operate the lever

easy when you know how

agree with Saul, Saints did you and your dad in brother, go ask your 5 years highschool fees back..........

One day I wil show you on a map how the bigger JHB area is surrounded by a freeway on all 4 sides , then I will be able to show you how to determine what is north, west east and south

but that was a good try - I will give you that

So it works for you! Yippeeeeeee!

Doesn't work for me. SRAM does!

You must listen to what the legendary Slave says when he says it is all a matter of interpretion and perception. Those I consider to be the general, rough and broad demarcations. It is too easy to get bogged down on the nitty gritty details of exactly which suburb falls where. Giving that, you are not true south, you are south east. You seem to base it in relation to the ring road highways. I don't. I base it more on the JHB CBD as the central point.

But we can banter a lot of cr@p some days. Geography, law, crampag, Tram, Sh!tmano and all sorts of other junk.

To answer your question Andy, my ride was just fine thanks. Got some tyres from Trubie (what a boytjie) last night and we are back in the saddle. Only one incidenet this morning with some non reflective dumb@ss. He saw me coming and still pulled in front on me on Belavista. Pity I couldn't unclip and kick his door in. Probably would have made that white early 80's Carolla look better. The rest of the ride was quite enjoyable.

Will be at team sales meeting the rest of the day, so I'll try to catch up tomorrow.

Thanks for the concern Princess. It can be a bit hair some days with all the commuting, but you get to read the traffic a lot and most days are free of incidents.

Taxi drivers are amazingly polite to me as a commuter. Not so much the non reflective women and ordinary car drivers of same complexion, palefaced women and then the bus drivers. It seems SUV drivers are among the wors though, especially those dumb@ssed NR women. They just do not have a cooking clue behind a wheel of a vehicle. Why they are not at home cooking is anybody's guess.

On the whole though commuting is so completely different to any other riding I have ever done. Most days it's great fun. I get my daily cycle / exercise in, and I get to and from work in about the same time as it would take in a car, and best of all, it's environmentally friendly. It's a bit mental too (See, I know the kid wil pick up on that one) but mostly a it's great. :D

Well andy, I was going to allow you to take me for a martini, but when i read your assault against my Trek and its Ultegra i have decided against it!

I have never used campagnola so i dont know how it feels. have you used it? if not does that mean you are able to make such comments against it? Maybe i am reading to much into all this but you guys really enjoy putting each others stuff down. Like Trubie said, a bike is a bike. And i am sure that your top riders would win on whatever bikes they are given. But as another hub guy commented yesterday, i know nothing!

I am too scared to ride on the northern roads at any time of the day! Not so in the south!

And for the record, Northcliff is west! :P

You can tell Andy is a lawyer!

Glad you had a good ride Slave! I had a good ride with Nancy up Northcliff Hill (so of course it would be a good ride).

Yes, some most drivers just do not have a clue wherever you are in SA!

Enjoy your meeting and day!

I wasn't assaulting your Trek and your Ultegra. I was mere doing a comparative analysis of my Trek compared to my Specialized. Bear in mind that my Trek and Ultegra has been in two major crashes with just about no damage at all (only my Bontrager wheels were damaged). But naturally, the Specialized and SRAM will be different to the Trek and Ultegra because the Specialized is a carbon whereas the Trek is aluminium. The SRAM Red is also a higher spec groupset than the Ultegra. It is equivalent to Dura-Ace, which is higher than Ultegra. In effect you are comparing things which are not on the same level, to use the often repeated phrase "comparing apples to oranges". Of course the higher level will be better than a lower level. So it was not an assault on any bike, component set or anything. Just a simple comparison of apples and oranges.
