Exams start Monday Os been studying like a champ, need these marks for varsity application.

Slave, Mini me's half-pints are riding, the question now is just what to do??????

There, I fixed it.

Ok, I seem to recall that this is how it works when you ride a bike. Make sure tyres are inflated and the bike is in a good enough condition to ride. Ensure that you have tubby bag, pump nd spare tubes for punctures. Get into cycling ltcra, get on bike and clip into pedals. Exert downward pressure on pedal that is on the top and upward pressure on pedal that is at bottom. Alternate until a rythm is achieved. This will propel the cycle in a forward direction. Repeat ad nauseum until planned route is complete. If unsure of route, follow cyclist in front of you.

I believe this is what you have to do. Oh, and sometimes you have to steer the cycle as well. :P

I'm not a fair weather cyclist (read 'roadie'), I aint scared of rain

Ok, so some of us are poefter roadies and I have never kept my fair weather riding preferences secret. I seem to have the subjective opinion that this is called sanity, but, I may be wrong. ;)

In truth, I am not scared of the rain having done some riding in the rain. It is those lunatics in the big metal boxes that worry me. They claim to not be able to see me (us cyclists) in bright sunshine and when it rains, the water gets into their shooz, stops oxygen from getting to their brains (located in their feet) and they do even dumber things than usual. It impairs their judgement, visibility and they seem to think that those tyres that they have have super grip instead of becoming non grip super slips. (The TV ad said so you know, so it must be true.) :P

The roads are slippery on skinnies and the breaks hardly work, making bunch riding in the rain a little more risky. Plus he shower that one gets is dirty water. Yuk. I prefer my cycling kit without the brown GT stripe down the middle of my jersey.

Tha's the junk that turns me into a poefter roadie.

Yeah, I think steering would be a good idea, as well as looking where you going! ;)

I can't wait for Sunday! It will be awesome. Had a great Spruit ride on the MTB this morning and same thing tomorrow. Then a wonderful road ride on Sunday. In the words of Jens Voigt, "Life is great!" :D

This weekend I'll be shorting 8km of running (not a train smash - should still make 50 for the week), but I'm missing out on a whole 4 hour cycle on Saturday. So I'll go with good, not great at the moment. But then again, you first have to crawl, before you can walk, before you can run.

And you can't do an extra 8km run in somewhere on Saturday? You are still meeting at Broken City on Sunday I hope!

I've moved my Sunday long run (15km) to Saturday, so the Sat 8km run ain't no more.

I'll be at Broken City early enough to wake up the sparrows!

Oh ok.

Excellent!

Bingo! I will also be! Fancy that!

Ok,so when we finish up on the second lap, you can run from Rietvlei to Broken City to fetch your car. Then drive it back to Rietvlei and run back to fetch Andy's car. :D Or,if you want a bit of a hill run, park at Panorama, and run back there to fetch your car afterwards.

Or go for a run around Rietvlei while we park off. I can always yell ribald abuse at you every time you run past until your 8 km is complete.

And to make up for Saturday and missing out on a long cycle, you may do three laps. Just not sure I can tag along for that one. I need legs for 300 km of commuting next week. :(

On a slightly lighter note, I did a shperrymunt this morning. The resut is simply this. Bike computers make your bike go faster.

Slave, we told you ages ago - only ONE magnet on your wheel, NOT one on every spoke!

Slave, I'll rather supervise you taking all those magnets off your wheels! :P

Especially if we do ride the loop in reverse and go down those mysterious "Steps". He will register a speed of Mach 5!

Er, the shperrymunt showed beyond doubt that removal of one magnet reduced the readings on the computer to zero. So the magnet is a "definite must be" piece of equipment. ;) The jury only deliberated on that one for 30 seconds. It was also found that the manuals supplied with said 'puter are reasonably reliable especially when considerin gplacement of the magnet. If incorrectly placed by more than 10mm, then zero readings were noted.

The experiment also did not take into account distance or speed but rather time over distance. So extra magnets or no. The distance I ride to work is currently 30.64 km according to the 'puter. The time taken was 1hr 16 where I usually do 1hr 25 (down a bit on my initial times of 1hr 38.) No matter how many magnets I have, the time remains the same and the distance (on the road) is the same. (Ok, if I put more magnets on, the distance and average speed would increase, but time remains constant. One second is one second and time is not affected by more magnets.) :P

According to the gamin, the distance I rode this morning was 30,5. So I think the computer is farily accurate. But like that's probably just my subjective opinion.

The conclusion of the shperrymunt is simple. It took me less time to do the same distance. Using the same routes as previously. The logical deduction is that the addition of a bike computer makes the bike go faster.

Arguments in mitigation will now be heard. The bike, configuration of magnets etc, will be available for scrutineering on Sunday. Please feel free to examine the evidence on Sunday before Lap 1. :D

Maybe you should bring a 2nd computer for the second lap, then your 2nd lap will be twice as fast as your 1st lap. Just don't bring a 3rd computer because your legs wont handle that speed ....

Sounds all in order for now pending further investigation at Broken City where the UCI scrutineers will inspect it to ensure compliance with all UCI rules. Just be safe and don't eat ANYTHING from Spain on Saturday night! Yoou never know who may show up as well. ;)

Got any spare magnets for me there Kid? ;)

On Sunday, I will just run the garmin again. Stoopid thing. Every day for like the last month, it gets stuck somewhere along the route. Stoopid thing freezes and calculates frokall. Today was the 1st time the silly tart worked all the way from "home" to work. I'm glad it did because it tells me that these computers are quite accurate. Maybe I should change the setup to the male voice since this silly tart also tried to tell me to turn right when I should be turning left the other day. But let's not go down that road today. Hannah might get upset because she doesn't know how to react to our banter... Imagine if we get into the other form of banter?

Max speed was down Oxford. 66.1 on the 'puter and 65.8 on the garmin.
