I guess some of the doom prophets were proven wrong today.

Ride for Sight for those that dont know the race, is a toughie. Its 116 k's with plenty of climbing thrown in for some good measure. Certainly not an easy race. At least not for this fat ass.

A bunch started with the racing Tandems today and I believe that has something to do with the outcome although they were quite absent from the front at many stages during the race. Long story short. This was my fastest ever race. Unsure about the ave speed as my measuring unit wasn't on my bike, but its close to, if not over 42k/h. I finished in 2:43 and can truly say that it was a very very hard effort, with a 83% ave HR and a max of 96.6% :o :o :o

Grateful to have been able to manage this and its a huge confidence booster for Argus, and especially after last week. Good to see effort sometimes = results.

Well done Trubie. Yeah, we closed Cat 4 down after a 6 minute gap in start times in around 25km. I also got a 2:43. Garmin gave me an average speed of 42.7kph! Great race today and felt good throughout. Was dangerous with the Cat 4 riders though and they were subsequently, and rightfully so, DQ'd after the race.

BigS, that is not the problem. With the old Vet groups A used to catch the odd few VA's, VB's VC's etc. But it was always in one's, two's, three's etc. Very small groups. Now that the Vet groups are ablity based and not age based you have all those Vets who were always dropped riding in one big disaster which goes by the name of Cat 4! So now you have A bunch catching all the drop outs in one go rather than in smaller numbers like previously. I'm sure the old Vet age grouping format had it's flaws but this new Cat system has more flaws. There should just go back to how it has ben in the past. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

Maybe a lot of those riding in A should get a full licence and race in the CAT's and vice versa?

The licensed fun 'racers' vs the unlicensed fun 'riders' They'll have to drop the whole concept of CSA membership vs racing license. EVERYBODY gets CSA membership and then get seeded according to ability. The whole mess is caused by this CSA membership vs racing thing. Daft in fact, and I'm sure it has more to do money than anything else

Of course it is about money - R350 v R75. They would then have to open SA's to everyone who wants to give it a shot.

Or just got back to the old Vet age groups. Much safer for all.

Surely national championships should only be open to provincial level athletes.

Time for Central Gauteng Cycling, et al to step up to the plate and do their jobs.
