Still think that Open/Seeded riders should be taken up into the Cat/2/3/4 groups depending on current seeding. They might just not be eligible for podium/prizes etc to entice going full licence... Or alternatively CSA should scrap the whole two tier licence structure and have a single licence for all riders, and then just sort on strength vs strength....

Having two races in one (Cat1/2/3/4 and Open/Seeded A/B/C/D/etc) will have overlap irrespective of seeding efforts.

Not sure if you guys realise that quite a few of us in Cat4 did drop back and then continued racing once there was a gap. We actually went to protest and to ask that the entire group be DQ'd as there could not have been a fair result.

The mistake was combining the A bunch with tandems as the speed was very fast especially on that fast downhill drag to Alberton, this meant that the combined bunch caught us very early in the race when both bunches were still huge. The front of the Cat4 bunch consisted mostly of what was previously the vets 50-59 Vets group. We initially sat up when passed by A bunch/tandems but then Cat4 guys came from the back of our bunch and jumped on and we eventually had no choice but to go with them. The difference was that when later asked to drop back by the marshall quite a few of us did but some selfish riders didn't which led to the disqualification.

I was very dissapointed as I was feeling strong and had actually been out on a 10km solo break for the 10km before Rondebult so was looking forward to a good race.

that is a pity Ian. I ride with some of those riders you mention and they told me as we regrouped that their race was over, even before the lady Comm on the bike tried to convey the message. It was rider 673 that started the k@k. He joined as soon as we passed and then ignored the shouting from the bunch, obviously the eager beavers just couldnt hold themselves in and reacted, and joined again. The rest is history. I would be very very livid if it was me being DQ'd due to some idiots reactions, but I would also ensure to sort the bud out nxt time.

Thanks for yr side of the story...

Ian, good to hear the story from the other side. I agree DQ'ing those who played by the rules is a bit heavy handed. Can you still petition the decision?

We decided as a group so rather just ask them to DQ the whole group.

I don't think it will be a big problem in the future, the start of R4S is very fast so there is no chance of breaking up the bunch. This was compounded by the tandems giving the A bunch guys a tow so that they caught us very early. In another race they would start catching back markers from Cat 4 but the groups would be a lot smaller. As I said the majority of the front of Cat 4 (where the racing was taking place) where the same guys that raced 50-59 last year so theoretically there should be very little difference to last years racing. There were some people who maybe shouldn't have been in a Cat race at all but I think they would be dropped quickly. I think one thing they could do is introduce a minimum seeding to get into any category ie. Cat2 = <8, Cat3 = 8-11, Cat 4 = 11-15 anything above 15 goes back to open seeded.

Another wierd thing is why allow 10min gaps between licenced bunches and then only 6 before A bunch and tandems? I don't see the logic there.

Ian, sorry to hear that!

The tandems might've made a bit of a difference but the last few races A bunch has been doing some low level flying! I suspect that we might've caught Cat a further down without the tandems.

The Cat 4 riders who jumped onto the back of A knew that the weren't suppose to but did anyway. The Comm in the silver Merc came past and shout to the Cat 4 to get back. Hopefully you guys in Cat 4 know who the culprits are and at the next race you can give them a few words. I'm sure that if some of the A riders did something then the rest of A would give him a few words as well.

As with many things the marshals and comms can only do so much as there has to be some sort of policing from within. Hope the rest of you guys take the culprits to task.

A lot of A would/should be in Cat 3 then. My seeding is around 11.

Possibly a solution is to adjust the start times. But then the back riders in the lower open groups could be delayed by 30 minutes or more which would then need an extensions of the cut off time. It is a vicious circle.

Agteros, as Kid said that he doubts A will catch Cat 2. We may get a faster time but we won't catch them because the gap is simply too great. They had 10 minute gaps between the Cats but then 6 minute to A after Cat 4. What they need is to have a bigger gap from Cat 4 to A and not have the Tandems in A. There were two tandems at the one corner which accelerated on the outside while everyone else was braking! Totally overcooked the corner and missed the slipway. Had to take the long way around the island. Even a tandem had something to say about that. But I suspect that the way A is racing this year we would've still have caught Cat 4 but further in than 25kms. I have a friend who rides Cat 3 and he says that the racing is very different to open racing. In open racing we maintain a reasonably high speed throughout at a more consistent level whereas in the Cats they cruise at a reasonable speed but then go faster on the hills etc and in places "where they can hurt you" than the open racing groups so speed is not as consistent.

This might be closer: "Fuel/Give me Fuel/It flies through my veins/It lies in my tears/It runs out of my Ears/heart" ?

PH and Agteros this might help.

The original German lyrics to the song "Benzin" by Rammstein:

Ich brauche Zeit

Kein Heroin kein Alkohol kein Nikotin

Brauch keine Hilfe

Kein Koffein

Doch Dynamit und Terpentin

Ich brauche für Gasolin

Explosiv wie Kerosin

Mit viel Oktan und frei von Blei

Einen Kraftstoff wie

Benzin

Brauch keinen Freund

Kein Kokain

Brauch weder Arzt noch Medizin

Brauch keine Frau nur Vaselin

Etwas Nitroglyzerin

Ich brauche Geld für Gasolin

Explosiv wie Kerosin

Mit viel Oktan und frei von Blei

Einen Kraftstoff wie

Benzin

Gib mir Benzin

Es fliesst durch meine Venen

Es schläft in meinen Tränen

Es läuft mir aus den Ohren

Herz und Nieren sind Motoren

Benzin

Willst du dich von etwas trennen

dann musst du es verbrennen

Willst du es nie wieder sehen

lass es schwimmen in Benzin

Benzin

Ich brauch Benzin

Benzin

Gib mir Benzin

The English translation:

I need time

No heroin nor alcohol nor nicotine

I don't need help

Nor caffeine

But I do need dynamite and turpentine

I need oil for gasoline [2]

Explosive like kerosene

With lots of octane and free of lead

A fuel like

Petrol

I don't need a friend

Nor cocaine

I need neither a doctor nor medicine

I don't need a woman, just Vaseline

Some nitroglycerine

I need money for gasoline

Explosive like kerosene

With lots of octane and free of lead

A fuel like

Petrol

Give me petrol

It flows through my veins

It sleeps in my tears

It leaks from my ears

Heart and kidneys are motors

Petrol

If you want to part with something

then you have to incinerate it

If you never want to see it again

let it swim in petrol

Petrol

I need petrol

Petrol

Give me petrol

The part that seems to be lost in translation is actually:

"It flows through my veins

It sleeps in my tears

It leaks from my ears

Heart and kidneys are motors"

The explaination behind the song:

“Benzin” (The German word for Petrol, or Gasoline) was the first song to be introduced from Rosenrot. Rammstein first played “Benzin” live at Berlin’s Wuhlheide Park in June 2005. Theatrical flames shot twenty meters into the air during the live performance. Later, the song was also played at several other concerts, one of them at Nîmes, which is included on the band’s new live DVD Völkerball. It is the only song to have been played live to date.

Benzin can be interpreted as a political reference to the high gas prices being experienced in many countries around the world (Ich brauche Geld für Gasolin/I need money for gasoline). “Gasolin” is not actually a German word, but an English word made German. There was, however, a German chain of gas stations called “Gasolin.”

Also, bassist Oliver Riedel briefly discussed the song on Rosenrot with Kerrang!, a music magazine published in the United Kingdom, where he said “We have so much fire in our shows that we wondered if we could have some lyrics about petrol, because it’s been responsible for our success outside of Germany. It’s basically our ode to pyromania.”
