 Who hit the :cursing: "Armageddon button"?

WTF happened here peeps? This is supposed to be a happy go lucky easy going thread about bikes and cycling and friendships tht have evolved around that.

Please! Let's stop the personal stuff and get back to the main topic.

I do not want to get involved in the politics of who said what. I have enough of that sh!t at work at the moment. As it is I have to go and face the firing squad at 9 am.

So in the interest of harmony and my sanity, let's get our act here cleaned up. OK!!! :whistling:

PrincessHannah, if you are going to bring that hotel story into the discussion then please bring the entire story into the discussion.

After my rear wheel broke the spoke on the aborted ride in the south in October, you said that you would take me wheel shopping, which didn't happen and I shopped for my own wheels. As the talk at that time was involved cocktails and drinking (you even told us that you had a few tequilas) the suggestion was that you take me wheel shopping and I take you for drinks/cocktails as a thank you. Now if you go to Mugg & Bean for your cocktails that is great but I go to the Southern Sun Hyde Park Hotel's Bar for cocktails. Many people go there for drinks as the atmoshpere is great and there are great views from towards Randburg and Fourways from the deck. You can see from their website, and the scrolling pictures, the deck and part of the view which I speak off.

On this thread there is a lot of banter and occasionally it can get a bit much. Then one just needs to leave and cool off for a day or two. Then you back.

Before I first got involved in the thread I looked at if for about a week and saw what it was about. Then I started becoming active on it and within a month I had met the others for a ride at Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve. You became active on the thread in about mid October. It is now mid February. That is roughly 4 months and still you haven't met any of us for a cycle ride. This thread is different to every other thread on the Hub. It is more than simply a thread on an internet forum. It is a group of great friends off the Hub as well. Sure, at times there is lots of banter and tempers etc can flair, but we are still all great friends. Last year I arranged a ride and the route included a road which I had never ridden my bike on but driven in my car. It was only about 900m long but had an average gradient of around 7% and two short sections which kicked up to 15% and 20% as we later found out. Agteros was fuming with me and we had our argument about it but we are friends again ("Ruddgate" ). After the Fast One they, including you in fact, were all on my case. To be honest it p!ssed me off hugely. But I still met with Kid at registration for the next race and had a pot of tea with him. Despite the numerous times I have occasionally being angry with them for whatever reason (as friends are with each other from time to time), I do not ever regret meeting them and joining the group. Even though the people on this thread are friends off the Hub, we still welcome anybody who wants to join the group and wants to cycle with us (after all the main thing here is cycling) without any membership criteria etc (ok, Kid does want to collect membership and other fees at times but it is all a big joke as he wants to buy a Pinarello Prince and doesn't have the money for it). Due to this being more than just chats on the Hub, there was probably the expectation that since you became a "resident" of the thread and group you need to sometime meet us and introduce yourself in person. Naturally being a member of the female gender it is understandable that you have concerns about meeting a group made up of mostly guys, although Nance (a lady) did offer to meet you before you meet the guys. We do not mind if the first few times you want to bring your boyfriend, father, cat, dog or the entire US Army as protection. Also the times when you did say you would meet us (for rides, for drinks, Decemebr holidays etc) and then had an excuse or didn't pitch has created certain impressions about you to various people in the group. We welcome you to be part of the group of friends, but it is a two way street. We are all real friends and not just "internet" friends on the Hub. If you just looking for "internet" friends then maybe this is not the place for you. If you want real cycling friends then this is the best place to find and make them. So we invite you to come meet with us and do a cycle ride with us.

Slave, I think various issues just boiled over.

With my issues the banter just got a bit much especially with the non-cycling things going on in my life at this time. I needed some cool off time and to blow off steam yesterday which I did and everything is fine again.

Hope the firing squad fire blanks. ;)

Ok so back to the serious stuff, Slave wants to break the group into 2 and make a "race" out of it. I say no ways, if we do a group ride it is a group ride and we ride together, if some get ahead then they stop and wait for the others.

There is a time for racing and competitions and a time for enjoying a ride in the countryside with fellow cyclists and I see this ride as one of those. Everyone agree?

Thanks Andy, I knew you were just having a rough day and would come around, but it still bothers me a bit.

What you said is true, we have become good mates through this thread, and it often surprises me that it is still going.

I just don't like what I see happening and it needs to cool down a bit. I will be asking admin to clean up the thread and remove the offending posts.

In the meantime, I think we all need to chill a bit. Today ispretty much my last day at Melrose and I will find out pretty soon what the firing squad is all about. Will let you all know as soon as it is done.

Suffice to say, I had my last cycle commute to the office this morning, my last commute home will be this afternoon.

Tomorrow I will use the car to pick up all my personal stuff and who knows where I will be next week.

It will all work out though, of that I have no doubt.

So when we going there for drinks ??? They have cold drink don't they ?

Do I need a passport ?

There is no cool off period here, this is a balls to the wall thread just like our your racing. Slave is the only one who can cool off and that's just because he is old.

You still owe me handle bar tape, bring money next week when we collect numbers.

After the Fast One they, were all on my case.

We I was on your case because you didn't ride hard enough, told you already this is balls to the wall stuff. Look how well you have performed after that. You should be thanking me / us and you could have sent me a cheque. Whether you admit it or not it was great motivation and now you in the front of the bunch.

To be honest it p!ssed me off hugely.

That's just because you choose to take everything personally, we still love you dude

Kid does want to collect membership and other fees at times but it is all a big joke

It's a serious matter not a freaken joke !!!!

And finally you better be there for that ride after the Argus !!!!

(NB bring money for Visa fees)

A few things just needed to be cleared up.

:D :D :D

With you on that IanJ! We'll ask Trubie to bring his pump along then he can chase down those who go too fast, and wel.. ermm... ja

I'l be as far to the back of the group as I can be, and play games trying to keep my HR as low as possible :) If people want to make a race of it, maybe we should turn it into a 'lowest average HR race' ;) which hould force everybody to keep it nice, slow and steady thumbup1.gif

Careful there, I am an old toppie with a RHR of 38, so it is very easy to keep my HR down ;)

Of course if ND comes along then BigS doesn't stand a chance he will blow his HR monitor. :D

In essence I do agree with you Ian. The "race" part of the route would really only have been from the cheese factory split back to Klip River giving the more serious cyclists a chance to strecth their legs and the "slower" cyclsts a bit of a chance to take a slightly shorter ride and still end up as a group for the final stretch home.

Just an idea that I though might give everyone a bit of what they needed.

I am happy to go along with the majority vote.

Hey Oxman, I am not sure I like your suggestion. MY RHR is around 70 BPM. That means I lose before I even start. :(

We can always express it as a percentage of something arb like 220-age ;)

On the other hand, I'm quite willing to settle for the silver (still on the podium ;) )

Would you like fries with that order?

I was looking for a nice easy (ish) ride dude. Haven't done the bosco loop for over a year. Now you want to scuttle my plans and then still have T's and C's.

WTF is wrong with you kids today? No respect for the elderly.

One day when my commuting is done, I am going to do some secret training, get a nice little rocket on the bike (maybe use a bit of spannish steak) and ride away from you.

So have you invited HA Ha yet.Likewhat's wrong with your Keyboard? :P

I agree with Ian, we should keep it as one ride.

Kid, you welcome to come anytime, even if you just drink cold drink.

Careful, I will charge you back dated visa fees for all the times you have come to colect numbers as well as rental space in the North.

I'll invite HA HA.

There fixed it

 Thanks Big S(tirrer). Appreciate the correction.

I guess that puts you in contention for the wooden spoon award for the year.

Andy is in the running for the Pratley putty award. :P
