I have a topeak moonshine light about 3 years old

and the battery is giving up the ghost.

To buy a new one is about R800.00

Is there any cheaper alternative? to a new battery.

The first thing to do is find out the type, voltage and capacity of the battery, let me know and we can take it from there.

From a bit of goooogle, it's a 14.4v 2200mAh Li-Ion unit. If you can open the casing without a 4lb hammer, just do it... take the batteries out and replace them with new ones. Try www.extremeshop.co.za, they'll have spares. Just make sure you get the same type, there will be 4 18650 cells, 3.7v 2200mAh each. Get a proper brand, like trustfire or the Sanyo Eneloops. Take note of the wiring (4 series). If there are tabs soldered to the batteries, see if you can fit rare earth magnets instead (you'll get them from extremeshop as well.)

WARNING: If you did science in high school, you might remember lithium as the stuff that randomly bursts into flames. Be careful. Do not puncture, do not connect backwards, do not heat, do not bugger around. Your house can burn down, but only if you're not careful so don't be paranoid.

Good luck, let me know how it goes, and feel free to ask if you want to know anything else!

You can also order the batteries direct from www. dealextreme.com (2weeks delivered). Half the price.

True... unless you get 10+, then extremeshop go down to the same as DX. I tend to buy lots, so didn't think of that.

No need to buy bulk. The one i'm using for my lights(sku 5790) are $10 (R100) for 2, same one are R189 @ extremeshop. Most of there stuff are almost double.

Can really recommend the Sigma Karma Pro - lekker little light. Maybe not as bright as the Moonshine, but does the job, is small and compact and the battery life is lekker. Solved my 24hour light hunting for the rest of my life Clap

Thanks all for all your advice.

I managed to contact a company in

primrose/germisto called Franton.

They supplied and fitted the batries for a fracton

of the cost of a new pack from the agents.
