It's REALLY great to see guys building their own playparks on private land. Awesome one guys! I'll definitly pop in for a ride when I'm up that side in January.

i dont think that you know much about pump tracks. That track is double the size of a normal track and we had a massive slop to deal with.It is not all about speed it is about skill and the workout it gives you. Ride with me some time 6 laps hard and you will not be able to breath

I agree with you!

I am a keen XC rider and I went to the bike park last week for the first time.

For me, it is just a bigger Logwood. Some wooden bridges are already collapsing, there is major drainage issues and I got dizzy after 2 laps on the "midget" pump track....(I actually thought it was a kiddies section)?

It seems it was built in a rush without much thought and now alas, everyone is on holiday so I doubt there is any trail maintenance happening.

They should have got Meurant Botha to build the bike park - He is a GURU!

I decided I'm not going back to the bike park ever again! Obviously the wood is sub standard, which is why everything is just falling apart. And the pump track sucks, because I can only do about 3 laps before I start seeing stars. And the grade of the soil doesn't agree with my tyres. Oh, and the trails aren't smooth enough, so it's uncomfortable with my rigid bike. And the berms are all over the place - how am I supposed to practise cornering when every turn is bermed? Oh, and the highway noise is distracting. And the mud? What the hell? How can a dirt trail get muddy when it gets wet? That's crazy. If these guys knew what they're doing, they would have paved all the trails, taken away all the jumps and technical bits. Then we could all shave our legs and get on our roadbikes and ride around the park.

Hell, until they figure out a way to build a 120km base training track on that property, it won't cater for my needs! I'll need to get my money back from them! Angry

The point I am trying to make is that the pump track is awfully'tight' and too short. With all that space, they could have actually built something more useful in my eyes. Make no mistake, the kiddies love it... It is about the only place they ride while being in full sight of mom who is sipping her coffee! And, for one final comment: In my opinion, the BMX track will probably scare more kids away than get them into the sport - Yes it is world class, but the size of the jumps are scary as hell! Sfiso is prob the only guy who can ride them! smiley36.gif

While I'm at it, I'll just sell all my bikes! Since I have NO WHERE to ride, why ride at all? The Spruit is too dangerous, Groenkloof too rocky, Northern Farms too smelly, Logwood too far out of Joburg, the Mine Dumps too sandy, Rietvlei too far South, Breedts Nek too steep...

From now on I'll just drive my car and swear at all you cyclists! Angry

Are you mocking me? Angry

Today is not the day to mock me! I was working till almost 3am, then I had to get up early(-ish) to come to the office, while all I can think about is my bike! I want to go for a ride after work, but I need to rest, because my legs are sore after the weekend, and my hands are raw from practising pivots and hopping and pedal-ups, so no riding for me today! Unhappy

Luckily I have a 150g box of Smarties that will make me feel better. Well, either make me feel better or make me throw up. I'm hoping for the latter because Smarties are fattening. Tongue

I rode the Bike Park yesterday for a couple of hours on my hardtail and had a ball. Again! I definitely felt it was 50 bucks well spent...

It's not Giba Gorge. It's not Tokai. It's not Stowe. It's the flippen MTN Toyota Bike Park in Bryanston... Just enjoy it for what it is and stop trying to compare it to other places. Oh, and it's not finished yet. End of February 2009 most of the trails and tracks should be completed.

Helen/Neleh:

Re the BMX track, how do you expect to create new international champions on a naff track that's got small jumps? Kids as young as 5 will be able to ride the whole track. The middle straight has a second option with smaller jumps specifically to cater for the little ones.

They're also building a small kid's fun trail/track near the Pump Track, specifically for Under-12s. It's not far from completion.

Good to hear, some of us adults will be using those smaller jumps option too...

Have you heard much about that TEAK place?
