Was at S.Bos today we were patiently in the Queue waiting 4 7bells' date=' when along come this beligerant Old Grandad wearing a NOLA cycling top, he ranted and raved with the security demanding to be let in so HE could park next to the gate where he would then get on his bike and ride the park. The Guard gave into him! Can we let these people ruin this haven for the rest of us? In addition whilst in the park I passed 6 cyclist riding down a one way the "wrong way" and a littered GU wrapper! Come on guys we need to pass the rules by word of mouthsmiley7.gif[/quote'] It's coming....and none too soon! Except that the plan is not to allow them entry at all!

Funny (funny peculiar) how it always seems to be the dimwit fraternity with the "fokjou houding" that ruin things for the majority.

Problem Delgado and others is that confronting these loons doesn't help.

I like the idea of bibs and I have a couple of ideas as to policing the routes that we can chat about Muxie. Perhaps if we can give the park managers an undertaking that we will abide by the rules at the risk of a life-ban, they will be willing to negotiate.

Personally, I have only been on a bike, in the reserve once (for a short bit), before we bailed and got in the car. I would count it a great pity if they do ban us permanently. I would love to ride there again when I am fitter and able to do the entire route.

The issue is that we are not all right / correct in our behaviour, but by the same token, there are hooglian motorists that also case K@K in the reserve.

However, it doesn't matter who is right and who is wrong. We need to change our attitudes and then we may be able to convince park officials that we can make entry conditional upon some form of membership (Seasonal cards) and then it will be easier to police.

As Scotty and others have said, it is such a great place to be, hill training and the chance to do some game watching at the same time. BEEEEG bonus.

BTW, how many of us have made an effort to clean up after the sh!thead cyclists before us have dropped their goo wrappers and water bottles.

Maybe park management can have bibs made and we (upon prrof of ID) can use them while in the park for identification purposes, then hand them in before we leave. A closed circuit TV monitor can then tell the gate guards that we have not tragressed the law and are thereforefree to enter again in future.

Let's face it. With so many loons running around with guns and other sh!t today, are we qualified to deal with errant members of our breed? Personally, I wouldn't want to be bliksemmed or shot as a reward for doing something that is good for our reputation and the environment. Can we really police those fools that ruin t for all of us.

There are a number of ways that management can monitor the bahaviour of all and then sort out the wayward fooligans, whether staff, motorist or cyclist.

All is good there so far. Things which have changed is the picnic area is closed due to consistent vandalism and season tickets have been reduced to 6 months maximum.

Other than that there are still the usual bunch going the wrong way around.

If you see this please stop the offending people and inform them in a nice way that they are breaking the rules, in 90% of the cases the people are not aware that the park is a one way route.

better not be before the hub ride.

Hullo? I thought we had to wear our cowboy hats and shotgun chaps for the hub ride? Gasping2009-07-14 04:47:36

Hullo? I thought we had to wear our cowboy hats and shotgun chaps for the hub ride?

has it been decided yet?

I saw the poll and either some cowboy or some cow-family voted bedonnerd to get the venue moved to the wildest west.

I haven't read the whol thread but I'm just always amazed that there is ALWAYS 1 numbnut that messes things up for everyone. The same happened at the old Wesbank raceway and at Kyalami, both of which were kick-ass training venues!!

Doubt we'll ever get rid of them though. Confused

Dear Muxman

What is entrence FEE , to little nobody CARES.

You must get a marshal/cyclist positioned at the gate. Hand out Newsletter / Letter of Rules to every cyclist/ MTB. Everybody must use SEEDING no. from PPA/ not sure of GP name.

YES each person must be told politly of said mistake.

If need be notify Marshal at gate security.

You NEED Police, ie YOUR marshalls.

First let me say that I agree with all the posts condemning cyclists for not adhering to the rules at SBR. I also  detest the way a few cyclists abuse the guards and boom operators. Anyone chucking litter in a nature reserve should be fined and banned for life.

What is a joke though is the way the officials at SBR will consider banning all cyclists if a few disobey the rules. We are constantly told not to take the law into our own hands and leave policing for the appointed officials. Well the appointed officials at SBR should be patrolling and sorting out the problems. I am not telepathic and as far as I know there exists no group concousness amongst cyclists that we can utilise controll the actions of all people on bicycles nor communicate in this mysterious fashion with them. I have noticed several snakes in the reserve that appear to be deliberately run over. Should we ban all cars? I often hear picnicers playing loud music, an offense in all nature reserves in South Africa, lets then ban all picnicers.

All nature reserves in South Africa have been given a mandate to provide mutiple usage and become self sufficiant, as far as posible, regarding funding. On both these counts I would suggest that it would be in SBR best interests to encourage cyclists as we provide a lot of gate revenue, cause no damage  to roads and barely use the picnic facilities. We are in effect a very lucrative cash cow.

As to the problem of pissing on the side of the road. I agree that it is rude to do this in full view of others but hell people, a double loop od SBR takes me hours and there are no facilities. Not one tap, no toilet, nothing. I spend a lot of the ride dodging babboon sh*t and now I am told a bit of human urine is a problem. Perhaps it is my rural background but I am not bothered by bodily functions so long as basic principles of hygene and good manners are adhered to.

To sum up.  Come on cyclists, stop acting like kids those few that do and stop thinking only of yourself and stuffing it up for the rest of us. Come on SBR officials. Start doing your job and stop hoping that a few threaghts will sort things out and you can then all stay in your cosy little offices while the cyclists will run around getting into fights with each other. Put up some decent signs, hand out some instructions and rules and encourage cyclists, you will be surprised at what can be achieved with a little imagination. Drop the school teacher attitude. SBR could be turned into an internationally renowned cycling tourist destination.

I think essentially the problem does not lie with people who frequent the Hub. Those that are on this forum generally know the rules and the feelings about breaking those rules of the people here.

The problem lies with those that are not members here and yes to an extent with the park officials not explaining the rules. I came across a guy and his son 2 weeks ago who had entered at the Karee Kloof Gate and had got lost thinking that the N3 gate was where they had parked. These two were broken and there was no way that they were going to get back to Karee Kloof except by going the wrong way around. The causes of this was no signage at the top of the big climb and they were not given a map by park officials at the gate.

I will chat to the park officials again and try to come up with a solution to this - was also wondering where ShaunH is as maybe we could get some sponsorship and use his initiative to get some signage up in the park.
