My question is: What will happen in rugby or cricket or athletics if you take out somebody? Will the authorities just say - sorry pell  life is tough or will they do something about it? I just hope that the youngsters dont start with similar tactics.

From Brandon Stewart's website.....

But there was a little drama out on route.. With myself and the king

KE.. Kevin. After 80kms Max attacked and Kevin had to chase.. As I was

speeding up to get on Kevins wheel.. He just turned into me and switch

me right into the bush but lucky I didnt go down.. i saw red and as far

as I was concerned he was not going to get away with it that easily...

So retaliated with the same treatment... I switched him back but he

was so tired that he could hardly hang onto the bars so a little nudge

had him eating some dust..

We then waited for him had some words and the racing resumed.. But

at the finish Kevin had to have an excuse as he cant take been beaten..

There is always a long story when he doesnt win he can never give any

rider credit when they do well..

He then protested and I was DQ because I did not protest first..

Which is so wendy... Its the sport of racing and if you want to play

then play but if you come off second best then dont cry about it..

Every rider has there day.. Its the first time in the sport of Mountain

biking that there has been a protest.. WHICH SAYS ALOT...

Its good that Brandon retaliated like that, he is a good guy and normally the cleanest racer out there. He had to put kevin in his place this time because what he did was unacceptable. They still waited for him to get back up then they raced on, Mtn have had this coming for a long time now, they think they are the best but the truth is, they are not anymore.

Don't attach the entire sport's future to one incident. In rugby, players get cited all the time and are punished accordingly. Same happened at Barberton. Testosterone is testosterone whether it's on a rugby field or a steep bushveld climb. Add some adrenaline, performance pressure and team tactics and you're bound to get a small explosion.

Yep, maybe they should take a hint from the Rugby & Cricket players. Do what counts (BEAT THE COMPETITION (up Ouch - in this case)

Do not get involved with silly games. Look at the cricket and the spectators name-calling our players. The Proteas let the Ozzie Administrators sort it out and just stick to cricket playing.

As they say: If you want to throw a punch, you should be prepared to land them as well...

I think this has been happening for ever in road and mtb. But normally it gets sorted out on the bike. Its rare that one of the parties involved runs crying to the officials.

I would like to know Kevin's side of this story, not just Queen B's

None the less very dissapointing! I'm glad Max kicked both their butts.

This is no example for our younger riders, if this is the way these two experienced (old) riders want to behave maybe it's time they both moved over so that we can concentrate on developing our younger riders and our sport. Can't see them setting the world on "fire" Internationallty anytime soon or in the future.

Maybe that's why they are getting so frustrated locally?

Only my opinion...

There is 3 sides to a story his story, Kevins story and the truth but in saying that if they both switched each other then all is fair in love and war and to go and protest is a pussy move in my eyes got you got beaten but we will never know if that is actually why he did it.

Knowing how much pressure MTN riders are to perform now that their little kingdom and dominance is coming to a end with most of their top road and MTB riders leaving at the end of 08 for "personal reasons" maybe the pressure is really big to win now with the remainding team?

Anyway change of gaurd is always good and makes racing better.

How? By boxing in all the races?

The only reason I started the thread, is because of similar thing happened to my son about 2 years ago at a mountainbike race in the Border area. At 40km an hour, a rider   elbowed my son off his bike and out of the race, resulting in severe knee injuries and R2000 damage to his bike. My other son also experienced a similar incident at a National XC race a few years ago when he tried to pass the leader up a hill. He landed up in the bushes. Luckily with no serious damage and only a few scratches.

I know tempers may be short, you are tired,  there are lots of money and sponsorships and pressure involved, but that does nor justify the behaviour of both riders, involved in this incident. CyclingSA should take a stand and try and prevent future incidents like this, to protect other innocent riders.
