I'm going to keep this light and short:

Usage: 7months

Conditions: Rain, wind, river crossings, pretty varies and abusive to bicycle bearings

Bike: Cannondale Scalpel

Comment:

After an initial 6 monthsof Eggbeater ownership in 2002 I was dead against these pedals. I hated them so much i tossed them in the bin.

Some improvements and a few years later I am a total convert. these pedals are SUPERB. The bearings now last extremely well requiring little attention. What does requoire attention is the ceramic bush at the threaded end of the pedal spindle. A bit of grear every few months and it's good as new. With the steel axle this is more important thanwith the Ti axles.

they are also light and the pedal engagement is light but secure. They are the mud kings!

I will only be riding Eggbeaters from ths point forward.

Also the all important back up is 2nd to none. And that for me is the biggest selling point. Clap

I've also become a fan, but for one issue.

When clipped in, there is a gap between the tread of my shoe and the pedal 'platform' (i.e. what becomes the axle).  The rsult is that the pdeal sits on the sole of the shoe and wears a groove. It also means that there is play in the system which must affect pedalling efficiency.

The problem can be cured by winding tape around the 'platforms' (and I see a lot of riders do this including the pros), but this is a schlep as the tape wears out frequently.

Does anybody have a work-around or else a more long-lasting solution?

That was the only thing I could fault when I tried them. I got the worst knee pain during my test ride due to this and untill they fix it, I will not try them again.
