Hi all. My name is Shelldon and I'm a complete mtb newby. I'm wondering if there are any group rides I can join in the area? And if not... if anyone's keen to start one, let me know.

Are you looking at doing mtbing or riding on the road to start?

mtb'ing only, and when i say complete newb, i mean it. bought a silverback oakland (yes i know it's not rated very highly) and in 3 months only done about 100km's. really looking at a beginners group.

Maverick cycles in Hillcrest do an MTB ride every Saturday for their Club members.

They make a point of always catering for newbies so you wont be left behind. So i suggest joining the club, its about R120 or something for the year. The shop is in Hillcrest in the shopping centre across the road from Heritage market.

Thanks. Got hold of them but haven't signed up yet, planning on it this week. Any idea how big the groups are (just curious)?

I am not actually sure on the size of their rides .

 

Although I am a Mavericks club member I do all my riding in the 'Cane around the Umhlanga/La Mercy area.

There is a nice cane ride for newbies out this way that runs on a Sunday morning, but you need a "cane licence" and also bit far for you to travel I am afraid.

I don't get out as much as I'd like, but if you're keen we can organise some rides.  I know a couple noobs I can try to convince to come with, I just don't know of much riding in the area other than the sugar cane (license required) and Giba Gorge.  Giba is a good option - www.gibagorge.co.za - I just don't know it very well.
