I am in the market for a cycling computer that can also do HR, and if possible, cadence.

I'm currently looking at and seriously considering the Polar CS200. I've seen there's another model around called the CS200cad which includes the cadence pod (but I suspect that the CS200cad is not being sold anymore).

I can get the Polar CS200 for R1,795-00, but I would like to know if there is another cycling computer with HR that you would recommend that would be better value for money in the same price range?

Hmmm.... Blackburn do a nice range of bike-specific computers with cadence, HR, and all the bells and whistles. Haven't used them, but they look SCHWEET! Cheaper than the Polar as well. THey also come in wireless, which is a major advantage for me (i don't do well with cables)

Sigma are also worth a look - the lab has both brands, but i'm sure any shop will have a selection.

I'd get the new Nokia N79 phone with polar belt (about to be lauched as a sports package). Provides all the functions you'll need.

Order the Cateye from CWC it only costs R1300. Look on their webpage under Heart Rate Monitors. I have one and it is great. It is wireless as well, so no messy cables on the bike.RaceChick2009-03-04 00:33:03

I use a CS200 with Cadence... Works really well.. and Polar's after sales service has been awesome.. my speed sensor wasn't working properly, and they replaced it. Now all works 100%. And its wireless aswell. and you can upload your rides to the website... Worth it I think...

keeping a high cadence is more energy efficient... so to monitor it, and make sure it is between 80-100 is more efficient... I might be corrected here.. but that is my understanding..

Depend where you are situated, but Solomons will give a good deasl on the cs200.

The wireless up and downloads to and from the polar site is a plus point as well.

Battery life is limited when using it with GPS.

is that with or without the cadence sensor?

That is without the cadence sensor. That is for the normal CS200. I see there is a CS200cad which includes the cadence sensor, but this is not advertised in their brochure.

Thanks  for all the help guys. My next post might just be "How do you properly set up your Polar CS200 with cadence?" LOL
