I put this baby together on the weekend.

It's a 90's (not sure of year, prob 94) Diamondback Apex with TT-Lite Cro-mo tubing. Picked it up for R200 bucks

Everything else is from the spares bin.20090304_031807_P040309_10.57_s.JPG

I guess I got lucky it's got a 36 chainwheel and an 18 sprocket on the back and it appears to be the "magic" gear for the bike. I'll have to see how it holds up.

Now I definitely know what I am building when I get home

And all you would need to finish it off with is a nice ENO hub!  Wink

Thanks for the compliments.

RE: derailleur, due to popular concensus I have removed it.

RE: sit post, was a spare parts bike. Happened to have this lying around from my dads Bridgestone. It had started splitting at the bolting insert (not sure what to call it so replaced it for him last year (it's a 27.0 so not common). Never got round to throughing it out. It's functional and got a house clamp to stop it from splitting. Tried it out and it fitted perfectly. could probably fit a 26.8 no problem as well

Have you taken it offroad...how does it ride?

As I knew I wasn't going to be at varsity before 8 I knew I would only be able to park at Rhodes Memorial, so I took it with. Rode down the footpath down to UCT that has the metal steps going over the fence.

Handled fine but still gotta get used to the rigid fork, let a bit of air out the front tyre and that made it a bit more bearable.

Riding back up was a bugger, instead of riding up the steep tar road I went through the old zoo, and continued up until I hit some singletrack that heads up to the flat road by the beginning of the fence by the tennis club.

Got about half way up and had to call it quits and push 36-18, going to have to rethink that one and/or get fitter.

What ratio do you other SSers use?
