Naas you might struggle finding thos is SA?

what country are you planning to tour? if it's europe, you'll most likely be better off buying there.

a friend made his own by altering two cheap backpacks, It worked quite well.

How long are you planning to tour?

Hi Cat-I,

Thanks for  your response. Plan to tour for about 14 days from Lake Como via Swiss and Germany to Austria - about 1000 km's.

except flying with a trailer adds more complications. with panniers,

the panniers are hand luggage, you check the bike in, and off you go.

i've

toured around ireland, and another time from jozi to capetown and

another time from amsterdam to paris - never needed panniers at the

front.

the tour-companion for amsterdam-parid bought his panniers in amsterdam, wide choice!

the

guy who converted the backpacks only did a 3-day tour with me from cape

town to agulhas - i liked his setup more than my own, because of the

side pockets that allows for better organising.

this is what my bike looks like Big%20smile

just take a smaller tent! the isodome 4-person was all that i had at that stage!!

I have two sets of panniers I'd like to flog.

The rear comprises three panniers - one top and two side ones. The whole lot zips together and can be used together or seperately. There's also a handlebar pack.  In my view, a handlebar pack is a must. It needn't be big, but that's where the camera, wallet, padkos and map goes.

PM me if you want to come look.

hehe naas even at my age i still love touring, and hearing other people's stories. have a bee in my bonnet about paris-marrakesh - when you're back from your germany-thingy and you liked it, and since you then know what works and what not, and after you've saved up some leave, then maybe we could talk about doing some of that route at the same time?

I bought an open ended ticket for my upcoming trip, so don't need to save up on leave, might just not come back ever...hope to find Sophia Loren over in Italy on her bike....Tongue
