Replacing old stem / bars

Hi

Hope this makes sense...

I have an old steel Daccordi track bike I want to rebuild as a fixie. It has a Shimano 600 integrated bar and stem. Headset is threaded. Any ideas on where I could get a replacement? I need to be able to change the bars so stem and bars need to be separable...

Are threaded headsets all the same size?

Do I need any special tools?

Suggestions or comments?

Thanks

NickM

I have never seen an integrated bar and stem. Didn't even know Shimano made bars and stems? Pictures?

Headsets are freely available, just make sure you get one with the right stack height for your application. They're all the same diameter (1 inch) but not all the same height.

You will more than likely need two 32mm flat spanners, sometimes one 32mm and one 36mm. Don't bother buying it, get the bike shop to fit the headset for you. Those tools are just about extinct because 1-inch headsets are dynosaurs.

Hi guys. Thanks for the feedback. Johan - here are pics (sorry not very clear) but it has "SHIMANO 600" printed on front:

Now I've seen something new....I mean old. Didn't know Shimano was in that business.

That's a "Pista" (track) stem and bar of the old quill stem type.

Like Titus said, just buy a new quill stem and standard bar. Look for a quill stem that has either a front loader opening or hinge so that you can open the clamp and remove the bar without threading it through after taking off all the equipment and bar tape. Those were horrible.

Are you sure there's not a bolt at the bottom of the stem where it meets the bar? The oldest ones were a one-piece and you removed the bolt and then threaded the bar through.

Your photo doesn't show the underside.
