Brake pads for carbon wheels

I understand that you need a different brake pad for a carbon wheel and a normal wheel.

 

What does one do if you are swapping between training and racing wheels ?

 

Do you get pads that don't discriminate ?

IF you have the cash get yourself some swisstop yellow brake pads they are pricey and not readily available fromn your local lbs but awesome for all types of carbon and aluminium rims

Any idea what the life of the Swisstop pads is like? I have to keep swapping between normal and carbon pads.

Ian i used mine for close on 1 year and a half (my shimano ones last me one summer with a lot of rain) and i do quite a bit of road training in all type of weather the best part about them is that in the rain you dont get that black rubber gunk all over your bike and rim when you brake

Just get RavX cork brake pads from your lbs they cost about R80 a set. Ive been using them forever and race and train ALOT think turtlek can confirm that!!!! I dont feel the difference when using them on my alu training wheels and yes when riding in the rain they actually brake better coz you dont have that black rubber gunk all over the rim!!!

What that you have been using them forever or that you race and train alot????? hahaha no just kidding spidey is right i have had a few people rave about the Rav X brake blocks before and so far none of them have crashed in the rain thanks to using them!!

Zipp pads work on both rim types. I haven't noticed any problems after a season of use.

I can second what turtlek said, the yellow swissstop are great on alu and carbon!

i found that the Zipp pads flake off due to the heat from braking on long downhills and cause a powder like substance to be emmitted all over your frame not so noticeable on dark frames but very noticeable on my bike and white cervelo R3's
