hi,

can anyone help or give me some advice.

My FS MTB is making bad "cracking" noises when i apply to much torgue/power when pedaling. Especially when standing.

I took the bike in for a service and thought the problem will be solved.

I wish.... The LBS then sed that the bushes of my fox RP2 need to be replaced.

Have anyone done this before? is this a DIY thing or must i take it in again.

Is it normal for the shock to have this damage after 1 year?

Thank for the advice...

well It depends If you ever greased it and looke after it...

Anyway If you do this It should last. but It depends on your frame, Many frames, some singlepivots especially carry a lot of sideways movement through to the shock which wears the Bushes quickly.

take It to a bikeshop. They will either have the bushes in  stock or have a engeneer Manufacture some for you (thats what my LBS did)

They are hard to press in/ out and the tollerences are very tight.

If you hadn't mentioned the LBS says the bushes are worn, by your symptoms alone I would have said it was the BB. It sounds text book. Can you feel, note any play on the rear shock?

If you coasting downhill and you bounce on the bike, idealling not involving the pedals at all, thus while sitting, does the noise persist?

Not saying it isn't bushes, just trying to confirm the diagnosis.

thanks 4 the advice.

is seems like there is play in the rear shock. I also first thought is was the BB but is is not.

It is when the bike swings from side to side (when standing) when the "clack.. clack " noise is heard..

I got a mechanical guy here at work , maybe i can ask him to make me new bushes that is a bit wider...

Creaking and cracking is not symptomatic of worn shocks bushes, Knocking is.

Creaking ans cracking is symptomatic of creaking and cracking.

So solve these problems looka the seat post frame junction, is it greased?

look at the BB area. perhaps there is water in there and the bb is making these noises.

the pedals are also a likley cause.

If there is play, it seems you LBS diagnosis is spot on. First just phone around and see if you can get new bushes. Obviously dependant on who makes your bike and what the support is like on that make in SA.
