Hey all.

I have a Raceface Evolve XC Crankset on a Giant Reign. I have been riding this for about a year and a half, still on my first BB bearing set.

The problem is that the Drive side crank arm is moving relative to the "axle". Is there anything I can do about it? Is there an adjustment I have missed or is it just worn out?

Does anyone have any experience of this?

Cheers

I had one of the BB cups come loose on my Giant Trance (Race Face Crank) and it was 'rubbing' on the drive side - could the same have happened to you?

The BB cups are tight and seem perfect. The splined axle also seems not to have any funny movement. It is only in the splined interface between the BB assembly and the Crank arm that I have this movement.

Luckily, it hasn't gotten bad enough to have caused any rubbing.

What I don't know, of course, is if the Crank is worn or the axle, or both.

I am loathe to buy a new BB if the Crank is also 'throw-away'.

Take the crank off and inspect both the BB and the Crank.

They don't last that long - the race face BB. My LBS fitted a Truavitiv BB and taht worked well for a while with the crankset. In my experience - when they start giving trouble rather change the BB or you will end up tearing apart your FD and kill the chain.

If you need to replace it, go for shimano deore. I've gone through two raceface cranks, five RF BB's before biting the bullet and buying shimano. I don't like shimano at all, but I've never had issues with my crank again, and replacing my middle and big Raceface rings as well as the BB would have cost me more than a Deore crank. Try and see if you can get it fixed under the warrantee, but remeber that staying loyal to raceface in the long run might cost you.
