How difficult can it be

I bought me a GARMIN 305 done the download of the training program..etc but its telling me my unit needs to be 1st connected... There is no connection option on the unit....

Has anyone had any similar experiences? What would be the solution

Silly answer but you have connected it via USB cable plugged into the unit?? Once plugged in it will search for the device. scotty2009-04-21 01:32:03

Ok then that does sound strange, if you have loaded the 305 drivers the training software should pick up that the device is connected. I reloaded mine the weekend from scratch onto my laptop and it worked.

Reboot your PC with the Garmin connected via the USB port, i.e. keep it plugged in.  That should sort it. Filamon2009-04-21 09:32:35

I find that unplugging the unit for a few seconds then plugging it

back in again solves the problem.

Also, make sure the connector is properly inserted. The unit should

beep and show a computer on the screen.

Make sure that your USB drivers are installed correctly. First ensure that the Edge is plugged into a USB port that you for a fact works. Right click on "My Computer" and then left click on "Manage". Now click on "Device manager". Expand this window by clicking on the square on the top right hand corner of this window. Check if there is any devices listed with an exclamation mark next to it. If there isn't any issues there, you need to ensure that your USB drivers are correctly installed. Get the latest USB drivers here: http://www8.garmin.com/software/USBDrivers_221.exe and install it WITHOUT THE EDGE CONNECTED. Once installed, reboot and then re-connect the Edge and see if Windows picks it up. If it does not, connect the USB cable to a different port. and see what happens. But, barring a device failure, I am sure that you will get it sorted. If not, report back and we'll take it from there.

Had same problem & this solved it (from Garmin support):

"Please go to www.garmap.co.za and download the web updater.

<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Also make sure that Training Centre is on v3.4.3"

Downloaded updated Training Center, updated USB drivers etc - now sorted!!!
