In defence of CC' date=' they are very good with getting results up. Past sunday , it was up within 3/4 hours after the race. I was impressed with that.

WT/Racetec - takes forever, if youre lucky they have it up by monday morning

But I know that's not what you want to hear.

What crap about the mounting of the chip, why do they supply it with a velcro strap then???????????

I see lotsa people wearing it around the ankles.
[/quote']

This is why I have always stood up for CC, but it looks like I've been

a sucker...

As for the "not what you want to hear" bit, nothing is 100% bad. I

just got screwed by them, but it doesn't make them evil incarnate.

And I agree with the velcro strap bit. WT and SpectrumSport have no

problem with EXACTLY the same technology and ankle mounting and will

help you. CC have a different attitude.

Remember when WT said you could use a CC chip and CC threatened to

take them to court.

I guess a leopard never changes its spots...

Forgive my ignorance here... but wouldn't it be easier to throw the CC chip back at them and then go get the WT chip? Wouldn't CC then get the message?

Posted

another thing to remember -  happened to me with that race that started at the Silversands casino - i slipped and fell while at the start line and had to change my tube, didnt go off with the group due to the changing of the tube. Did the long route and when i checked the results i was listed under the short route - when enquired i was told nothing can be done about it - too late.

If this does happen to you then either walk across the mats and then change the puncture or when finished go first to the CC truck/person/s and they can change it then and there otherwise u screwed.

I see there was a lot of tandems that DNF or got DQ on Sunday ? But I also take CC far above WT. Their stats are not nearly as good as CC. Listen, they are not cheap. We also got our CC's stolen with my car at the Fast One and it cost me almost R400 to get 2 new chips plus wheel mountings and to get all our "old" results linked on the "new" chips.

Nope - they won't use WT chips - they are scared of competition

and apparently aren't prepared to co-operate with anyone (hence they

threatened to sue WT). It would make life easier for us cyclists (the

customer), but then it looks like their attitude is f*** the customer...

After reading all the posts above, i have been trying, but I have been battling on how to attach the ChampionChip mount to my ankle. I thought the velcro was easier, but if they want it on their mount, then hey... maybe the drill might work better

So what are you supposed to do on a tandem?

Where do you put the second chip?

Howdy Barend! Hope you're well!!!

Simple - buy TWO mounts!!! Put one on the front and the other

on the back and they get twice the amount of money from you!!!

Funny, my Championchip came with a velcro strap. Would have thought that would be for ankle-mounting it...? Only paid the extra R50(?) for the fork mount as I thought it was a good idea because I'm flaky on race morning. Didn't realise that they had such an issue about the mounting method. Sure, don't velcro it to your wrist, but come on!

Either their mats registered your chip or they didn't. If they didn't and you can prove that you were on the same tandem as your partner, what's the issue?

Unfortunately, it seems that having two "competitors" in this particular pond does not seem to be having much of an effect on customer service levels.

I found the whole "lawsuit" issue between CC and WT very unsavoury as a paying customer - literally forcing me to purchase another timing chip when the one I already had could be read by both systems.

And I look forward with relish to having to replace my perfectly functional WT chip with the new "improved" version... as I am sure will be required (but perhaps I am being too cynical - blame the rain).

Sorry for your trouble - it sounds frustrating.

Cheers,

At least WT let you do it.

Seems like CC would tell you to f*** off...

You know, I did think of that.  However, that means that it either (a) interferes with the derailleur or (b) the quick-release.

And if they're both on the front wheel, you'll have to check that the quick release axle is long enough.

Actually to pool the number of chips in circulation would probably damage competition.

A significant part of the value of a timing company would be the number of sportspeople who own its chips and the general acceptance.

If you owned CC and I started a timing company called Jules Timing, how would you feel if I told my customers that they can just use their CC chips?

It's not right, and the judge agreed with CC.

Also, you have to ask whether WT is selected purely on price/merit. WT and PPA share a common director. WT is contracted to provide timing for PPA. WT is a for-profit entity. PPA is a non-profit entity.

I can't believe these guys!!!

I rode the Wilro this weekend on a tandem and got a DNF (my tandem
stoker got his time' date=' though).

So I emailed CC. Nothing. So I emailed again. The response was from
a lady(?) Sue who asked for the info in my email (obviously didn't
bother to read it) and how I mounted my chip.

I stated it was on my ankle and I made sure my ankle was down as
I went over the line.

The response was that this was "incorrectly" mounted and I would not
get a result. Only chips mounted on CC mounts are accepted as correctly
mounted.

Where does that **** come from? The closest is at:
http://www.championchip.co.za/php/faq.php?ID=8
and no where does it state that they refuse to deal with you if
you don't. How about that for a one sided deal and **** the customer?
It wasn't printed on the paper I got with my CC (yep - I STILL
have it!!!).

I stated that CC can miss chips due to speed or interference even if
correctly mounted and this was ignored. Apparently if CC misses your
chip it's your fault entirely!

When I stated I was on a tandem (same race number and start group as
my stoker on their Web site) and it would be easy to fix the result, the
reply was a polite "f*** off".

I've had problems with CC and WT before. CC have always been a bit
dodgy and WT have bent over backwards to help, but it looks like
CC are plumbing new depths with crappy customer service.

I have emailed Colin Hecter.

I wonder if I'll get a reply?

YADA YADA YADA, I saw you sitting on the front feet up reading the paper and having a drink, so its only fair that the stoker who did all the work get the creditBig%20smile

Are you sure you did not have it mounted upside down or back to front?

I hear they have not been able to over come the programming error if you do mount it wrong, as if it is back to front you get a negative time and if it is upside down then you get recorded as finishing the race at the start and starting the race at the finishWink

Wow! Seems to me that the HubSA should have some sought of "representative body" where they can approach organisations like CC and tell them off. At least they would have a substantial following as opposed to just one guy like "jmaccelari" getting no where in a hurry here!

Good luck brother, I think you gonna need it!
