Anyone here know who in the Cape may have half links in stock or may be able to supply them? I have been checking out a few sites on the net and am keen to give using a half-link a go rather than using a chain tensioner for a SS conversion.

Has anyone had any experience in using them and can it be recommended?

Thanks in advance

SRAM power links work the bomb. Bet the others work just as well, but can only comment on the SRAM ones as I use them. Bought a batch from CRC, but I know I also got a pair from action cycles in Cape Town.

Sorry this is what I am referring to, not a Powerlink.

my brother found a KMC half link chain in Cape Town, I think it may have been Cross Town Cycles.

Either that or Olympic Cycles normally have a pretty good list of stock.

They also come in funky colours to if that matters

hahaha. i'm such a chop. I googled the half link cos i wasnt sure what it was. Saw a pic that looked exactly like a powerlink. DIdnt think to take a good hard look at the length. Thanks for teaching me something :)

I had to import mine from here ..... http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/category-Chains--Spares-712.htm

I had a tandem front drive chain I could not tension properly. I still have the half links I imported and did not use them becuase I solved the problem by dropping from an evenly toothed chainrings to an uneven toothed chainrings. 44 TPI to 39 TPI. You most likely have an even chainring with an even rear gear...... or maybe uneven with uneven. Go check and report back please.

I have Shadow Conspiracy half links in 1/2 x 1/8 (i.e not 3/32).

R30 each. If you're keen, mail me at sales(at)theriot.co.za. Don't PM me, my browsing habits vary Wink

OK guys thanks for all the replies

Big H - it would be even numbers ---32 x 18 or 32 x 16

Brad - what width chains do you have? It would have to be linked into an old seven speed chain...not sure how wide that is.

Try something with an uneven set of teeth like a 17 at the back and see if it makes a differance......... not sure if it will work but we had 44 tpi both front and rear on the tandem and when I changed to 39 tpi front and rear it worked....... I found my "half link". There are geometry differences between the tandem equation and the singlespeed I think.
